Our hearty congratulations to A G Iswarya Lakshmi for her achievement. She has secured 50th rank in Electronics and Communication in Anna University Chennai. She secured 8.58 CGPA. Last year, she got placed in Cognizant Technology Solutions Private Limited (CTS) Chennai in Tamil Nadu State Level Placement Programme (TNSLPP) conducted by Anna University Chennai.

Department of ECE-IEI student Chapter organized Intra Department Competitions on 15th Oct'2014 at Vikram Sarabhai Hall from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Competitions included Seminar Presentation and Technical Quiz. There were five participants in seminar presentation and six teams(5 members each) in Technical quiz. Dr.T.Arivoli and Prof.MS.Krishnan were the judges for the events.

Prizes were distributed by Dr.T.Arivoli. IEI Coordinator Mrs. A.Yasodai initiated the proceedings and facilitated smooth and successful conduct of the competition.

A 12 day training programme on “CCNA - Routing and Switching” was organized by Department of ECE associated with Sansbound Chennai. They covered a vast syllabus on Networking. The session was handled by Mr. Dhanasekaran, Mr. Vijayan, Mr.Ezhilarasan and Mr.Sam Saji.

The main topics covered for the session was about static and dynamic routing using cisco routers. Dynamic routing protocols like RIP, EIGRP and OSPF were shown practically using an original routers setup that was arranged in the labs. They also discussed about PPP, Frame relay, HDLC, ISDN, Access list-standard and extended. A half day practical session was conducted in all days during the training period. A hands on experience was given by the trainers in the original setup that was arranged in the lab. This training helped students to gain a lot of information about the networking concepts and also some of the firewall mechanisms.

The trainers also included about the placement schemes in their company for the students who have undergone the training. Thus the training programme has created self confidence and a pavement to build their career with a good number of opportunities.

The Twelve Days Training on Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)  is organised by Dept of ECE for final year students.

Department of ECE organized Two-Day National workshop “Imaging and Object Recognition I & OR 2014 ” on 23rd and 27^th August 2014. The purpose of the workshop was to bring many highly specialised and interesting lectures from professors of repute in the field to learn about imaging and Object recognition and identify opportunities for object recognition research worldwide. Programme was inaugurated with Welcome Address by Dr.T.Arivoli, Prof & Head, Dept. of ECE .There were totally 60 participants - comprising of  Under Graduate and Post Graduate students, and Faculty Members from various colleges .

On the first day, Dr.S.Mohammed Mansoor Roomi, TCE-Madurai was the lead resource person for a detailed session on Image Segmentation and Object Recognition. Dr.S.Roomi, provided an excellent overview on Image segmentation. He also discussed Segmentation Based on Edge Detection,Thresholding Method,Region Based Segmentation Methods ,Gray Histogram Technique and Gradient Based Method. He briefed each technique with examples. This session was followed by Dr. R. Sathyabama TCE-Madurai who gave an insight to fundamentals of feature extraction and  explained it in  a lucid matter. On day two, Dr. N.Krishnan, Manonmaniam Sundaranar Univerity delivered lecture on Image acquisition techniques. In a short span of 2 hours, he almost brefied the whole spectrum of image processing including image enhancement and restoration with many examples. In the following session he continued with demonstrations of various programs using IDL.He also explained the scope and issues available for realistic research in High Dynamic Range Imaging. Later,  Ms.Malini Priyanka of III ECE prposed Vote of Thanks.

Regional Level Winner

We the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering heartfully congratulate K.Priyanka of 2011-2015 Batch who won First Place in Regional level contest "ICTACT Youth Talk - 2014" organised by ICTACT held at Sethu Institute of Technology.

Mr.R.Surajith Nath and Ms.N.U.Vaishnavi  , 2005-2009 batch  students of ECE, interacted with the current third year ECE students on 7.3.14 at 12.15 p.m. Surajith  is presently working with Igate ,Toronto  as analyst and Vaishnavi is with capgemini, Pune,Technical lead . They shared their  experiences of attending various interviews, and the skills that were required to make one employable in the best way, etc. The session was very interactive and it provided very useful inputs to the students with respect to placement.
