Awareness on Depression/suicide

There was a Corporate Voice organized in our campus for the benefit of second and third year students on 21st march 2016. The 28th corporate voice had Ms.Sana Iqbal, Corporate trainer in Root cause analysis, Hyderabad Voicing the students on "Suicide Is Not The Solution".

                        Ms.Sana Iqbal, she is a Biker by passion, Corporate trainer by profession and a master's student of Psychology. She is travelling all aloneacross India on Bullet to raise awareness against Suicide and Depression. She have already covered 18000 Kms on her bike(Bullet 350 electra-2007 model) and 55 cities and have conducted 95 sessions with students of various colleges. Her plan is to cover 40000 kms in 5 months covering cities of north east too.

  Her objective was to Address college students on:
• Identification of depression in themselves and their peers
• Overcoming negative thoughts and influence
• Setting priorities in life; the realistic way
• Overcoming the psychological setback of, “Perfect Life”

                            She talked about helping people understand that depression is a part of life and it needs to be dealt with in the right away. Also she conveyedthe message that life is neither a movie or a book where emphasis is on happy ending for a simple reason - Life goes on and movies/books don't. She continued saying that Youth today get concerned about society due to parental pressure. They get scared to talk to people and have an inbuilt fear of being mocked at or rejected. Apart from this also there are various causes because of which, a lot of people don't live their actual personality. Her intention was clear that can be put forth as "no matter how bad the situation is, it can be dealt with!"

                         She also has a facebook page (Suicide is NOT the solution) through which students can get in touch with her and get her advice to tackle their depression.

Rise N Shine : Pongal Celebration at Sathya Orphanage Home

The enthusiastic and welfare minded students of  a club named “RISE 'N' SHINE (45 members)along  with their teachers have arranged the 'Pongal celebration' programme at “Sathya Ammaiyar Memorial Government Children's home” at Thangaraj Saalai, K.K.Nagar, Madurai. They celebrated Pongal Festival on 13-01-2016 at 12.30 P.M. alongwith the students of that home. In that programme the following events were held:

  1. Pongal was cooked and shared with inmates.

  2. Sweets & Juices were offered to Children.

  3. Entertainment and Games programmes were held and prices distibuted.

  4. The writing materials and new dresses were donated to the inmates. and

  5. Study materials and notes were distributed to X and XII students.

Over and above, the students of Vickram College of Engineering promised the inmates that they will help them in their education also.  Dr.S.Nagarajan, Principal and Heads of the departments  have participated and encouraged the students. The management of the Vickram College of Engineering has taken very exclusive steps in conducting this programme successfully.

Helmet Awareness Rally for Road Safety Week

Vickram Group of Institutions along with Poovanthi Police station organised the Helmet Awareness Rally on 14/01/16 inorder to mark the 27th Road safety week.Dr.S.Nagarajan Principal , Vickram College of Engineering , Mrs.Palaniselvam Principal Vickram Polytechnic College  , Mrs.ShanthiBalaji  Inspector of police and Mrs.Sasikala Sub Inspector of Police poovanthi police station have  started the rally at 9.30 AM.All the students , staff members and student members of NSS and 'Rise N Shine' participated in the rally and emphasized the importance of road safety rules,traffic rules and importance of wearing helmet to the people.They started the rally from Poovanthi police station and covered nearly a distance of 5Km.

Nss organised blood donation camp on 10.07.2015

A one day blood donation camp was organised by N.S.S at Vickram College of Engineering on 10.07.2015 .The camp  was presided over by the principal Dr.S.Nagarajan.The doctors and the nursing staff of govt.medical college,Sivaganga checked the eligibility criteria of the blood donars among the student volunteers and collected 50 units of blood for the benifit of poor patients of govt  hospital,Sivaganga. Prof. S. Gopi, the College N.S.S. programme Officer monitored the camp. The certificates were issued to all the Donors.

Rise 'N' Shine - A visit to Sathya Orphanage home

 

 

Sathya Orphanage Home under corporation of madurai  is located near Gandhi Museum, madurai comprises of 157 children in the age group between 6 and 16 years. Around 45 student members of Rise ' N' shine celebrated the pongal in the home along with the children. Initially the members cleaned the campus , halls ,conducted entertainment games  cooked the pongal. The above event was graced by our Honourable Director , Mr.Vijay Sreenivas and Respected Principal , Dr.S.Nagarajan.They distributed the sweets to the children and also interacted with them.This was really a good effort taken by the students and wish them all success in future. We also thank the Management, Principal and staff for their support and encouragement towards the programme.

VCE Student's 'Pongal' with “Sathya Ammaiyar Memorial Government Children's home”

The enthusiastic and welfare minded students of Vickram College of Engineering have joined together and formed a club named “RISE 'N' SHINE”. 45 members of them with their teachers have arranged the 'Pongal celebration' programme at “Sathya Ammaiyar Memorial Government Children's home” at Thangaraj Saalai, K.K.Nagar, Madurai.

This group celebrated Pongal Festival on 14-01-2015 at 1.30 P.M. along with the students of that home. In that programme the following events were held:

  1. The cleaning of the campus of the home was done as per the Prime Minister Modi's 'Swachh Bharath' Guidelines.

  2. Pongal was cooked and shared with inmates.

  3. Sweets & Juices were offered to Children.

  4. Entertainment and Games programmes were held and prices distibuted.

  5. The writing materials and new dresses were donated to the inmates. and

  6. Dust bins, broomes etc. were distributed to the home.

Over and above, the students of Vickram College of Engineering promised the inmates that they will help them in their education also. Director Vijayshrenivas and Dr.S.Nagarajan, Principal have participated and encouraged the students. The management of the Vickram College of Engineering has taken very exclusive steps in conducting this programme successfully.
