College of Engineering, Trichy. All the best for her future endeavours.

GUEST LECTURE ON MINOR IRRIGATION STRUCTURES

                A Guest Lecture programme was organised by the Department of Civil Engineering on 11-3 -11 at the conference hall for the I, II and Pre-Final year students . The Resource Person was Er. A. Elango, Asst. Executive Engineer,Water Resource Organisation, Madurai Region, Tamilnadu.The programme commenced with the Welcome address and Introductory speech given by the Prof. N.Vaidyanathan, Department of Civil Engineering. After that the Resource Person gave his presentation on 'Minor Irrigation Structures'. He opened his presentation by stating the importance and functions of minor irrigation structures. Then he explained in detail to the students about the various parameters of design used in this type of irrigation. He further discussed about the source of water, conveyance and the distribution of water to the agricultural purpose. In his last session he encouraged the students to gain knowledge and information in this field, since irrigation plays a key role in the growth and development of our country. The programme came to the end with a vote of thanks proposed by the Dean, Prof. M. Palanikumar. 180 students and staff participated in this programme and reaped the benefits.

construction techniques of long span bridges

A Guest Lecture programme was organised by Department of Civil Engineering on 24-2-11 at the conference hall of Vickram College of Engineering for I, II and Pre-Final year Civil Engineering students . The Resource Person was Er. P. Williams Jai, Executive Engineer, Southern Railways, Madurai. The programme commenced with the Welcome address and introduction of chief guest given by the Principal of the college, Dr. S. Kathirrvelu. After that the Resource Person gave his presentation on 'Construction of long span bridges in short duration'. He opened his presentation with the illustration of the technique adopted in the gauge conversion of the Pamban bridge. Then he explained in detail to the students about the various techniques used in the construction of the Long span Bridges in a short span of time. In his presentation he also explained about Pile foundation and the construction techniques involved in it. After that he switched on to the field of Disaster Management, which the students found very interesting. His last session was based on the notable experiences of the various projects done by him. The programme came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by the Dean of the college, Prof. M. Palanikumar. 165 students and staff participated in this programme and reaped the benefits.

The Resource Person was Er. Mathuram, Executive Engineer,Madurai Corporation. The programme commenced with the welcome address given by the Principal of the college Dr. S. Kathirrvelu. After that the Resource Person gave his presentation on the topic 'Environmental Issues and Solid Waste Management'. He discussed about various types of environmental issues and also suggested the solutions for preventing solid and liquid wastes. The second session started with the discussion on treatment of water and clarification of the doubts by the students. The programme came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by Prof. & Head L. Ponraj Sankar,Department of Civil Engineering. 135 students and staff participated in this programme and reaped the benefits.

CONGRATULATIONS TO WINNERS OF DEPARTMENT COMPETITION FOR II YEAR CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENTS

An Elocution competition was conducted in the Department of Civil Engineering for the 3rd semester students of the department. The objective of the contest was to motivate the students and improve their knowledge on Civil Engineering. The topic for the contest was “CIVIL ENGINEERING”.

Participants were asked to submit a write-up on the given title  of which the shortlisted contestants were asked to present the same. Of the 50 students who participated, 10 were selected and asked to make the presentation.
 

The students whose presentation were adjudged as the most informative were felicitated with certificates and they were also given 2GB Pen-Drive as a token of appreciation by the Principal Dr . S Kathirrvelu in the presence of Dean Prof M Palanikumar, Head of The Department Mr L Ponraj Sankar and faculty members of the Civil Department.

The Principal Dr. S Kathirrvelu stressed on how competition like these mold and give a professional edge to the students.

PARENTS TEACHERS MEETING - II YEAR CIVIL

 Parents-Teachers Meeting for IInd year Civil Engineering students was conducted today. Parents of around thirty students participated and interacted in the meeting.The Meeting started with the address of the Principal Dr.S.Kathirrvelu's to the parents and stressed on the responsibilities of Parents, Teachers and Students towards improving the quality of student's education. The Principal also spoke on the potential of Civil Engineering in today's dynamic world.


This was followed by the interaction between the parents and the college authorities. Queries ranged on the facilities of the college, hostel and transport and were answered by the Principal and the College Administrative Officer, Mr. Nagarajan. Parents also had a discussion the general behaviour of students in college.

The HOD of Civil Engineering Dept.  Mr L Ponraj Sankar and Second year Class adviser Mr V Dass Mohan had one to one meeting with all the parents, the details of which are duly recorded in the Student History Register. A SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threat) analysis on the students performance and University results was done. Feedback from the parents regarding the studies of their ward, expectation from the faculties were also recorded.
