Ms A Kavitha and Ms A Subhalakshmi of III year Civil Engineering have won the First prize in QUIZ COMPETITION conducted by " Adhiyamaan College of Engineeering, Hosur in association with the Institution of Engineers (India ) students chapter of the college on 3rd and 4th of September , 2010. A total of 100 participants from different colleges took part in the Two Days National Level Technical Symposium,"MAQUINISTA T'10" .
A Guest Lecture programme was organised by the Dept. Of Civil Engineering on 26-8-10 for the II,III and Final Year students of Civil Engineering in the conference hall of the College. The Resource Person was Er. N.Vaidyanathan,Former Dy. Chief Engineer,Public Works Department,TN. The programme commenced with the welcome address given by the Principal Dr.S.Kathirrvelu. After that the Reosurce Person gave his presentation on the topic 'Procedure of Awarding Contract and Arbitration in PWD'. He explained the students about the scope and importance of Civil Engineering. He advised the students to explore new avenues in the Private and Public Sector Enterprises.Through the slides he explained the procedures and disputes related to Tenders,Contracts and Bidding in Govt. and Private sectors. The students found the session to be highly informative and useful.Nearly 160 students got benefited through this programme. The programme came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by Dean of the college Mr.M.Palanikumar.

He also rendered his services as Dean of Thiagarajar College of Engineering.The programme commenced with the welcome address given by the Principal Dr.S.Kathirrvelu. After that the stage was handed over to the Resource Person. He shared his views on 'Modern Concrete Technology in Civil Engineering'.Through his slides he explained the students about 'Latest trends adopted for using concrete'.He also stressed upon the use of fly ash which is eco- friendly in nature. In the second session he interacted with the students and encouraged them to explore new avenues in the field of Civil Engineering. Nearly 160 students got benefited through this programme. The programme came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by the Dean of the college Mr.M.Palanikumar.
As part of our college social responsibility project,33 STUDENTS OF FINAL YEAR CIVIL ENGINEERING are conducting a TRAFFIC SURVEY from 30.07.2010 onwards at several important junctions of the city in a bid to find a solution for reducing traffic jams.
This survey also aims to identify other junctions that might in the future be subject to heavy traffic.

Abstract
In this polluted world, conservation of energy has become the necessary factor to save the ecological balance of the environment. A seminar
was organised by ACCE ( Association of consulting civil engineers) to give solution for this problem. The chief guest Mr.R.Sundaram,
Int.President,SEWC addressed on 'Green building concept' on minimization of cement concrete.
Associate members of Saint Gobain , Mr.Rajil and Mr.Antony Santhosh presented about the 'Green Building Concept regularization of ECBC - LEED Rating
Systems (US Green building council/Indian Green building council)'In this they have mentioned about the heat absorbing glasses and which is used to
reduce 80% of the heat.
The information about the 'Energy auditing' was wonderfully presented by Mr.Lawrence,Vice president,Tata consulting services - E Serve,Chennai.
An energy saving product called 'Glass Fibre' which is used as hollow partition walls, it was presented by Dr.Cosima Klinger-Paul,Managing Director,
M/S Lamilux India pvt.ltd., New Delhi
Mr.S.Muthukumar, Regional Manager, Wienerberger Brick industry(P)Ltd., Bangalore, presented the 'Specification of Energy Efficient clay hollow
Bricks', whose performance rate is high inside buildings.
'Energy efficient buildings using sandwich insulated panels',i.e., presence of foam between two layers of steel mainly used in industrial application
reduces heat inside the building.It was presented by Mr.Anup Kumar Dave,Managing Director, M/S Metecno India (P)Ltd.,Chennai.
Factors that are to be considered when we construct an 'Energy Efficient & Green Buildings'.And also the factors such as 'Air Ventillation & Roof
distribution system'. It was presented by Mr.N.Sridhar,Managing Director, Blaze Beam Corporation,Chennai.
Finally all the staff members and the students of the civil engineering were given a participation certificate.
