Vickram College of Engineering, Institutional Member-Construction Industry Development Council, CIDC

 

 

 

Vickram College of Engineering has acquired the Institutional Membership of "Construction Industry Development Council, CIDC" . The membership certificate was issued by CIDC dated 17/05/2012.

 

Construction Industry Development Council, CIDC is a joint venture between The Planning Commission, The Government of India and the Indian Construction Industry which has been set up for the development of the Indian Construction Industry. The Council provides the impetus and the organizational infrastructure to raise the quality levels across the industry. This helps to secure wider appreciation of the interests of construction business by the government, industry and peer groups in society. CIDC is a change agent to accelerate a process of self-reform to enable the industry to answer the challenges of the future. Clarity of purpose and intent forms CIDC's mandate.

Since its inception in 1996, the Council has taken several initiatives for the development of the industry. Few are given below:

            Advice the Government on policy formulation related to construction industry.

            Standardization of construction contracts and procedures.

            Training manpower at skilled worker level and construction management level.

            Grading of construction entities

            Devise mechanisms for workers' welfare.

            Create an environment that ensures equality of opportunity for all Indian contractors.

            Help evolve policies for financing.

            Help the industry move from the current state of rule-bound, lowest-price-based contracting to a more quality-conscious, time-bound & technology-driven one.

            Dispute Resolution in Construction Contracts.

            Establishing construction equipment bank.

            Interaction and networking with international organizations to promote emerging technologies and best practices.

DESIGN ASPECTS IN BUILDINGS

A Guest Lecture on "DESIGN ASPECTS IN BUILDINGS" was organised on 26th August, 2011 at the premises of Vickram College of Engineering for the benefit of the Current Final Year and II Year B.E. Civil Engineering Students. The said Lecture was presented by Asst Executive Engineer of Tamilnadu PWD, Er. A. Pragadeeswaran, M.E. He has covered various topics in his special presentation, such as:-
1.Different kinds of Structures- Their Types, Designs, analysis and modifications etc,
2.Elements and their functionality in Reinforced Concrete Buildings- The mixtures, the rods used to provide the Reinforcement, the care and precautions to be taken, the forming period etc,
3.Detailing of RC Elements.
4.RC Building constructions resisting the 'Effects of Earth quakes'.
All these topics were explained in a simple language but in an elaborate manner with the help of PPT. He has reiterated the common mistakes a Building contractor tends to commit, knowingly or unknowingly, the ill-effects that may tend to be felt by the owners, and the remedial action that are to be taken by the responsible Engineer. In this regard, he has quoted various case studies to bring about, the different common Construction errors. He has insisted that all the Engineers, particularly, Civil Engineers must follow ethical principles meticulously because of its proximity to the People.
Prof Vaidyanathan welcomed and Prof & Head. Mr L Ponraj Sankar proposed the vote of thanks.

Special Lecture on Employment opportunities in Civil Engineering

A special lecture session was organised by Mr. L. Ponraj Sankar, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, for the Pre-Final and Final Year students. The Resource Person for the programme was Er. Parameshwaran, Asst. Engineer Airport Authority of India, Kadappa, Andhra Pradesh. Er. Parameshwaran- a scholar who cleared GATE for two times and also similar exams viz. CPWD, Airport Authority of India etc. Presently waiting for the result of IES, he gave his presentation on i) Examination conducted by UPSC and TNPSC ii) Employment opportunities in the Government Services and Public Sector iii) Cracking GATE and IES Examination. He also encouraged the students to pursue their higher studies and gave them the list of various disciplines in civil engineering, which can be explored. The students were highly motivated by his session and clarified their doubts. 120 students and staff were benefited through this programme.

SOLAIYAR DAM VISIT

Solaiyar is situated 20 km from Valparai and Valparai is located 64 km from Pollachi ,

a hill station in the Anaimalai Hills of the Coimbatore district, TamilNadu India.

It is the second deepest dam in Asia.
It is part of the Hydroelectric project of Tamil Nadu.
The water belongs to Tamil Nadu and dam located in present Kerala.

Solaiyar dam is a vital reservoir under the Parambikulam Aliyar Project and has a water storage capacity of 152.5 M.Cum
The reservoir's overflowing waters are let into the Parambikulam and Aliyar Reservoir.
