The department of Civil Engineering congratulates 2 university rank holders in April 2014 Anna University Examinations. P.Revathi secured 8.75 CGPA and got 11th rank. Lakshmi Mohandas secured 8.52 CGPA and got 39th rank.
Department of Civil organized a One -Day National workshop “Sustainable Ground Water Management System" on 6th September, 2014. Programme was inaugurated with Welcome Address by Dr.R.Mohana, Asso.Prof & Head and Dept. of Civil. There were totally 80 participants - comprising of Under Graduate and Faculty Members from various colleges.
The first session was addressed by the Chief Guest Mr.P.Ramachandran-(Retd) Assistant Director (Geophysics). He stressed on the importance of Ground water Management in any research activity. Now, with the dawn of Technology, and its infiltration into all engineering domains, Ground water has emerged as effective tools for engineering research. These Studies enable us to be properly routed in research and to attempt problem-solving quite effectively and confidently. The second session commenced with the presentation by Mr.A .L. Valliappan (Retd) Deputy Director (Geology) .He discussed the current global,regional and national situations,Tools and techniques to improve sustainability in water sector with the particular focus on ground water , agricultural water management and implications for unsustainable practices. The one day Workshopcame to a close, with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. V. Dass Mohan, Assistant Professor,and Departmentof Civil Engineering.
We the Department of Civil Engineering Organising a National Level Workshop on " Sustainable Ground Water Management System" on 6th September , 2014 in the Core Block Conference hall (Ramanujam Conference Hall) at 9.30AM.The Resource Persons are Mr.P.Ramachandran, Assistant Director(Geophysics),WRO,PWD,Madurai and Mr.A.L.Valliappan, Deputy Director(Geology),WRO,PWD,Madurai.
The guest lecture held on 13.02.13 was delivered by Er S Nirmal Kumar Permanent way Inspector Southern railways and Alumni of our college 2006-10 batch in civil engineering.
He started with an introduction about Indian railways and enumerated its development from days its started. It was like an overview on ‘Raiway Engineering’ when he explained important terminologies that an engineer must know. He then explained today’s status of Indian railways, its hierarchy and division and also the status of southern railways. He also explained about the expected developments that would be happening in the railways in the future. The scope and opportunities for a civil engineer were charted out in govt. public and private sectors. He also shared his experience as a student and the importance and role of faculty for student growth, now he developed himself ready to face the outside world and listed out the websites and magazines that a civil engineer should be in touch with. This invited guest lecture was a wonderful opportunity to know about the scope for civil engineers not only in railways but also in other sectors and was useful to the core. This Guest Lecture was organaised by Prof. L Ponraj sankar, HOD/civil Engineering and conclude with vote of thanks was given by Ms M Uvasri III year Civil.
M.Pandiarajan, P.Kasirajan and K.S.S.Kannan final year civil engineering students won III rd prize in Technical quiz programme organaised by Builders Association of India in the eve of "Builders Day Function" at Thiagarajar college of Engineering, Madurai.
A two-day staff development programme ( 13, 7,'12 and 14, 7, '12 ) on BRICSCAD drafting tool was organised by department of Civil Engineering for faculty members of various disciplines like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering and also few non teaching faculty. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. S. Kathirrvelu, Principal of the College and Mr. Sanjay Jamalpur from BRICSCAD, Bengaluru offered a comprehensive view and handed training on 2D and 3D Modelling which is said to occupy an advantageous position when compared with the existing drafting tools. The training rendered to about 30 members would in turn facilitate in imparting the same to the students and thereby equip them to cope with the industry expectations. The training was co-ordinated by Associate Professor L. Ponraj sankar, Department of Civil Engineering.
