A DRDO sponsored Two-day Workshop on “Wavelet & Sparse signal Representation” was organised on 28th &29th Sep' 2012. The Presidential address was given by the Principal Dr. S. Kathirrvelu. 60 participants - comprising Under Graduate and Post Graduate students and Faculty Members from various colleges participated in this programme.

Dr. M.Sabarimalai Manikandan, Chief Engineer,Samsung India Electronics pvt.Limited gave his presentation on elementary signals, signal operation& representations, transform and their uses. Features for signal characterisation in sparse representation,compressive sensing and applications were also explained by Dr.Manikandan.Dr.Rajaram,Dean Dept.of Computer science Engg. Provided an excellent and lucid explanation on Eigen Values and Eigen Vectors.

On the second day, Dr.P.Venkatakrishnan,HOD,Dept.of ECE, covered the topics pertaining to wavelet transform,Receiver Operating Characteristics and PID control system Operation.The lecture was followed by Hands-on Training on MATLAB Wavelet Toolbox . The feedback from the participants was quite encouraging.
 

Ms.Y Sajeetha Banu & Ms.S.Pavithra of IV year ECE won I Prize in Paper presentation at EUPREXIA 12 ,conducted by the Dept.of ECE,Odaiyappa College of Engineering &Technology,Theni on 22nd Sep'12.

Resource person spoke about the Design, Applications and Implementation of VLSI technology. He shared his experience on fabrication and test procedure of VLSI systems.He also advised  students on projects related to  VLSI.

Mr.R.Bharath and Mr.K.Aravindh kumar of II ECE won I prize in Paper presentation titled "FPGA based solar tracking system" in National level Technical Symposium RACE'12 held at Velammal College of Engineering and Technology,Madurai . Department of ECE congratulates them on this occasion.

Mr. C. Suhas, 2010 passed out student of ECE, interacted with the current final year ECE students on 4.9.12 at 11.00 a.m. He is working with Tata Communications, Mumbai as Junior Telecom Engineer. His job nature is Path Designing. Suhas shared his experience at the workplace, job nature, and the key skills required to sustain oneself etc. The session was very  interactive and students were able to identify themselves with the speaker.

The Workshop on 'EM Design of Microwave/RF Modules using HFSS was organised at Vickram college of Engineering on 17th August 2012. There were two Resource Persons who gave their valuable insights upon the topic and explored the possibilities of research study in this area. The inaugural address was given by the Principal of the college Dr. S. Kahtirrvelu. 66 participants - comprising Research Scholars, Under Graduate and Post Graduate students and Faculty Members from various colleges participated in this programme.

Mr. P. Vasigaran, Senior Software Engineer, L&T Integrated Engineering services, Mysore, gave his presentation on Fundamentals of RF and Microwave communication and gave a detailed explanation on various Antennas Types , Design Parameters- Considerations –Characteristics, Antenna Issues & Pre-Compliances. Mr.P.Rajadurai,Senior Application Engineer-ANSYS Innovent Engineering Services, Bangalore gave his presentation on a state of the art topic pertaining to HF Tools and Applications. He provided a lucid explanation on design of patch antenna using HFSS. The lecture was followed by a very interactive lab session in the afternoon .  The programme came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by III year ECE student Ms. Suganya . The programme was a grand success under the able direction of the Management and guidance of the Principal and the Administrative Officer.

Model Exam Timetable for the Department of ECE to be held from 12/4/12 onwards is as follows:

The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized INTELECTIUM ’12, a national level technical symposium on Friday March 16, 2012. Air Commodore R.Jayakumar was the Chief-Guest for this event. The symposium commenced with a prayer. After the welcome address by Ms.Rajalakshmi /IV year ECE, Director Er. Vijay Shrenivas SR made his presidential address. He advised the students to be a harbinger of changes, as all inventions in the past are a result of "CHANGE" which is the only constant thing.

The Chief Guest Mr.R.Jayakumar in his presentation  introduced various types of air crafts, their maintenance and speed of operation. He also stressed the students to make use of opportunity that comes their way.

The poster presentation session was chaired by Dr.Hariharan of TCE,Madurai. He guided the students in the discussion on the various topics. The following students have been adjudged to be the winners: 1)R.Saravanakumar and K.Santhosh,Sethu Institute of Technology, Madurai won the first prize 2) J.Vinoth Kumar and V.P.Venkat Raman, SACS MAVMM Engineering College, won second prize.

There was an exhibition of various projects done by students from other colleges. 8 students(4 Batches) from Dept.of ECE of various other colleges took part in this event.
 
In the valedictory function, feedback session was conducted. The hospitality, enthusiasm of the host institution and time management of the events were appreciated. Dr.P.Venkatakrishnan/HOD,ECE distributed the prizes. One of the student co-coordinators, Mr.Muthusaravanan of II year ECE proposed the vote of thanks. With the National anthem, the function came to an end.

Department of ECE organizes a national level technical symposium INTELECTIUM'12 on 16th March, 2012.
