The AICTE Sponsored National Seminar on 'Current Trends in Network Security' was organised on 3rd and 4th February 2012. There were three Resource Persons who gave their valuable insights upon the topic and explored the possibilities of research study in this area. The inaugural address was given by the Principal of the college Dr. S. Kahtirrvelu. 70 participants - comprising Research Scholars, Under Graduate and Post Graduate students and Faculty Members from various colleges participated in this programme.
Dr. Rajaram, Dean- Department of CSE, Vickram College of Engineering gave his presentation on a state of the art topic pertaining to Network Cryptography. He provided a lucid explanation on Threshold cryptography based RSA. He gave a detailed explanation on various applications using RSA based threshold cryptography. Mr. Amutha Prabhakar, Department of ECE, Thiagarajar College of Engineering- a renowned scholar, gave his presentation on Network Cryptography and also presented his views upon various authentication schemes on Network security. The lecture was followed by a very interactive lab session in the afternoon.
On the second day, Mr. Amutha Prabhakar gave a session on Data Mining Algorithm in a secured network environment. This was vividly illustrated with explanation on important applications. Dr. P. Venkatakrishnan, Head of the Department of ECE, Vickram College of Engineering, delivered an informative presentation on various tools and means which would facilitate major functions in networking. A detailed explanation on Multiplicative Inversion, Matrix inversion, Eigen Value and Vector Determination and Random Number generation was given by him.
The programme came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Parisa Beham, Department of ECE, Vickram College of Engineering . The programme was a grand success under the able direction of the Management and guidance of the Principal and the Administrative Officer- Prof. S. Nagarajan.
There is an inauguration of IETE chapter organized by Department of ECE on 6th Feb'2012 at 3.00 p.m at Conference Hall, Main Block. Mr.R.M.Subbiah, Senior GM, Transmission projects, BSNL, Madurai has given his consent to be the chief guest of the event. All are welcome.
The CSIR sponsored National seminar titled 'All Round Development Achieved Through Embedded systems and Wireless Applications “ADATEWA’ 11” was organised at Vickram college of Engineering from 19th to 23rd Dec’2011. There were 11 Resource Persons who gave their valuable insights upon the topic and explored the possibilities of research study in this area. Assistant Prof. Ms. M.Parisa Beham welcomed the gathering. 120 participants and staff from various colleges participated in this programme.
Dr. K. Hariharan of Thiagarajar College of Engineering gave his presentation on ARM Processing for Embedded Systems. He listed out the advantages of ARM Processor and discussed the instruction set. Er. R. Subramanian, Sub Divisional Engineer-NW & NIB, BSNL Madurai gave his presentation on IP Networking. He explained about the format and methodology of IP allocation and networking procedures. He also discussed upon the scope for enlargement of IP network. Dr. G. Athisha, Prof.& Head, Department of ECE, PSNA College of Engineering, Dindigul gave her presentation on Wireless Sensor Network. The session was quite informative and encompassed all modern security systems and concepts. Er. F. Mansoor Hassan, Junior Telecom Officer, NIB-BSNL, Madurai gave his presentation on Broad band & Wi-Max. The management concepts of broadband and process of switch over between generations were clearly explained by him.
Dr. R. Rajaram, Dean Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Vickram College of Engineering explained the details and the concepts of embedded systems and brought out how wireless applications were realizable through embedded systems. He covered details of various hardwares including core processors and explained the methodology. Dr. S. Mohamed Mansoor Roomi, Assistant Professor, Thiagarajar College of Engineering explained a complex topic N Dimensional Data Processing for Wireless Applications in an admirably lucid manner. Dr.P.Venkatakrishnan, Head of the Department of ECE, Vickram College of Engineering gave his presentation on Wavelet Transform and its Application and explained about the usage of wavelet transform as an efficient mean to represent images. He explained the multistage analysis in detail. Er. D. Pandidurai, Junior Telecom Officer-NW & CDR, BSNL, Madurai gave his presentation on Network Security and explained about firewall and network security methodology. This session concluded with the hands on training on the QUCS simulator and Wavelet Simulation Tools conducted by Mr. R.M. Manickam and Dr. P. Venkatakrishnan respectively.
Dr. M.S.K. Manikandan, Assistant Professor, Thiagarajar College of Engineering took the session on the topic Configuring and Management of CISCO Network System. Detailed organization, interconnection, priority levels and topologies were well presented. A session on Impact of Embedded systems & Wireless Application on Aerospace was taken by Prof. M.S. Krishnan, Department of ECE, Vickram College of Engineering. He explained the advantages and revolution caused by embedded system in Aerospace. Prof.Krishnan stressed the need for the student participants to choose a career which has some share of social responsibility, which should be of core engineering; not pure IT alone. Mr. R.M. Manickam, Department of ECE, Vickram College of Engineering gave his presentation on Embedded System. He further explained the process of generating schematic circuit diagram and its performance simulation. Valedictory function was held on 23rd December, 2011.The Principal of the College. Dr. S. Kathirrvelu gave the valedictory address. Dr. P.Venkatakrishnan, Head of the Department of ECE proposed a vote of thanks.
A Guest lecture on “ Genetic Algorithm and its Applications” will be delivered by Dr.R.Rajaram, Dean IT/CSE, Thiagarajar College of Engineering at Conference Hall on 24th September (Saturday), 2011 at 9.30 am for third year ECE students. In view of this regular classes scheduled at that time stand canceled.

Dr.R.Rajaram has published innumerable papers in various journals of national and international repute. He has organized various seminars, conferences and workshops. His area of specialization is Network security. He is a visiting faculty to many foreign universities.
Department of ECE congratulates Y.Sajeetha Banu and S.Pavithra of III ECE for securing Second place in Poster presentation in AARON'11, a national level technical symposium, held at SACS M.A.V.M.M Engineering college on 17th Sep'11. They displayed a poster on the topic " Optimal design implementation of FIR filter using Add and Shift multipliers".
Final year ECE students R.Sutharsanan and C.Saravanan walk off with Best Simulation Award (I prize) in TECUTHSAV'11 held at Thiagarajar college of Engineering on 14th September 2011. They presented a paper titled " Low power FIR filter design using Booth and shift and Add multiplier approach".

They presented a paper on the topic " Design of low power multipliers for FIR filters". Department of ECE congratulate them on this occasion.
Ms.Juhi and Ms.V.Gouselya of Final year ECE bagged first prize in Paper presentation in 'Minnanial'11' held at Mohamed Sathak Engineering College on 22nd August,2011. They presented a paper titled' Automatic gait recognition using Eigen subspaces'. Department of ECE congratulate the winners!
