Red Ribbon Club Organizes Interactive Session on HIV/AIDS

An Interactive session on “HIV and Youth” was organized by the Red Ribbon Club of our college on 24th Oct 09. Initiating the programme Mr. V. Sekar, Field Officer, Tamil Nadu State Aids Control Society (TANSACS), highlighted the need for sensitizing the youth about HIV/AIDS. “Prevention is most certainly better than cure. The best way to control HIV spread is to confront it, talk about it, and adopt safe behaviour for prevention. Youth participation will play a vital role in HIV prevention” said Mr. Sekar.

Mr. Saravanan, STI Counseller, Govt Hospital, Sivagangai discussed various initiatives taken by the government to arrest the spread of HIV/AIDS. Ms. Shanthi, an HIV/AIDS patient,in her address described the various issues that make youth as one of the vulnerable groups as far as HIV/AIDS is concerned. The session was very interactive in which students took an active part and got their doubts cleared.
