A Guest Lecture programme was organised by the Department of Electronics and Comunication Engineering on 22-7-11 at the conference hall of Vickram College of Engineering for the Pre-Final Year students of the department. The Resource Person was Mr. M.Palaniyappan, Asst. Engineer, Transmission and Distribution Training Institute, K.Puduar, Madurai. The programme commenced with the Welcome address given by the Principal of the College-Dr. S. Kathirrvelu. After that the Resource Person Mr. Palaniappan gave his presentation on "Transmission Lines and Distribution and Electrical Safety''. He started his presentation with the explanation on generation of electricity, its transmission and finally distribution. He further explained in detail to the students about Hydro-Electric power and the conservation of the energy. The second half of the session was on the area of safety measures in transmission and energy conservation. Speaking on this topic he said, that the 'use of solar energy is the need of the hour and the college has used this energy to the optimum through solar heaters, solar bulbs and so on'. The students clarified their doubts in this domain and explored the scope in this area. They also discussed about the possibilities of doing project in this field. The programme came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Sadhasaya. 101 students and staff participated in this programme and reaped the benefits. The Head of the Department of Electronics and Comunication Engineering- Ms. M. Parisa Beham appreciated the efforts taken by the staff and students for the smooth conduct of the programme.
In lieu of the regular schedule, Dept. of ECE will organize a guest lecture for the III year ECE students.

About the Speakers:
Mr.M.Palaniyappan has 20 years of experience in Meters & relay testing,Construction & distribution, sub station and is a training wing Faculty.TNEB. Mr.A.Sahayaraj is certified energy auditor by Government of India. He has 20 years of experience in Sub station erection, distribution . He is also a teaching faculty in Transmission & Distribution training Institute.
Ms.T.Chitra of Final year ECE won "Best paper" award in National Conference held @ KLN College of Information Technology on 7th April,2011. She presented the paper titled " An FPGA based frame work for Multinode architecture".

The department of Electronics and communication engineering organised INTELECTIUM ’11, National level technical symposium on Friday March 25, 2011. Er. P.S.Sundaravaradhan, CEO, M/S.Prudent communications, Bangalore was the Chief-Guest for this event. The symposium commenced with prayer. After the welcome address by the Head of the Department Ms.Parisa Beham, Director Er. Vijay Shrenivas SR made his presidential remarks. He advised the students to cultivate lateral thinking which is the most important ability of an engineer to succeed in life.
The Chief Guest Er. P.S.Sundaravaradhan stressed the need for engineers to emerge as innovators. All inventions are the result of hard work and commitment, and not merely accidental attainments. He insisted that language is immaterial if one is clear in expressing his/her thoughts.He also insisted the students to develop lateral thinking and remarked students form rural back ground outshines than those from urban.He pointed out that innovation comes from students though companies sponsor and market it in large scale.
The poster presentation session was chaired by Er. P.S.Sundaravaradhan. He guided the students in the discussion on the various topics. The following students have been adjudged to be the winners: 1)RA.Ragavi Brindha and S.S.Keerthika,Velammal college of Engineering and Technology won the first prize and a cash award of Rs. 3000/- and 2) R.Ram Prasath & K.Prabakaran, KLN college of Information Technology, won second place and cash award of Rs. 1500/-.

In the valedictory function, feedback session was conducted. The hospitality, enthusiasm of the host Institution and time management of the events were appreciated. Principal Dr.S.Kathirrvelu gave valedictory address and distributed the prizes. One of the student co-ordinators, Ms.Pallavi of III year ECE proposed the vote of thanks. With the National anthem, the function came to a close.
