Pre-Workshop on Mission 10X for Faculty Empowerment by Wipro Technologies Ltd.
As a prelude to the workshop on Faculty Empowerment Programme to be conducted in our college from 23rd Nov 09 to 27th Nov 09, a Pre-Workshop Session was held on 4th Nov 09, in which faculty members from 3 engineering colleges – Pannai Engineering College, St. Michael Engineering College, & Vickram College of Engineering, participated. All the participating teachers were directed to do their on-line registration in the format devised by Wipro. This 5-Day Workshop on Faculty Empowerment Programme is going to be conducted by experts from Wipro Technologies Ltd., in collaboration with Anna University. It is launched with the conviction that Faculty Empowerment will ultimately lead to empowerment of students in terms of their employ-ability.
The inaugural session was addressed by Mr. Veerendra P. Pillarisetty, Manager, Academic Relations, Wipro Technologies Ltd. In his speech, he observed that the teaching faculty members have to explore all avenues to make the classroom activity interesting, through interaction with students. Learning should not be teacher-oriented, but student-oriented. Teachers have to work smartly with the students. Hard work is taxing, but smart work is interesting and participative. Teachers should not drain out all their energy in classroom teaching. On the other hand, through inspiring students, and by presenting the subject quite imaginatively, learning activity should be made more participative and interactive. A teacher is a facilitator and must facilitate learning. Learning is to be made more interactive and activity-oriented otherwise process of learning becomes a dull exercise.
Teachers must conserve 70% of their energy for their professional development, like publishing papers, making presentations at seminar, writing books, working for their doctoral studies, etc. Only then, there can be growth in the career of teachers and liveliness in their classrooms. It is not only subject knowledge, which students of today are expected to possess, but more competencies. Teachers impart knowledge to students, through imaginative presentations, but do the same, by caring to develop competencies, such as self-confidence, courage of conviction, technical skills, creativity, soft skills, etc.
Our Principal Prof. M. Palanikumar spoke of the days, when teachers were adored and respected as fountains of knowledge and wisdom. He opined that teachers of today should cultivate the habits and values of the eminent teachers of the past.
Mrs. Prithima was the organizer of the event. Prof. V. Jeyapaul Sathiasaran welcomed the guests. Mr. R. Chandrasekaran spoke of the benefits of Mission 10X in making teachers more effective and successful. The function came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Sheeba Rani.
