International Seminar on 'Overseas Educational Avenues'

                 An International Seminar on 'Overseas Educational Avenues' was organized by Anna University of Technology of Madurai in association with the College on 26th July,11. The programme was presented by the Resource Persons from Association Accredited Advisors of Overseas Education. 252 students and staff paritcipated in this programme. The programme commenced with the welcome address by the Administrative Officer, Prof. S. Nagarajan.

           Dr. C. Swarnalatha, Director Career Guidance Cell, Anna University of Technology , Madurai initiated the proceedings and gave a special address on ' Need for global education.' She said that there is great demand for the young engineers in abroad, therefore the students must harness their skills to be successful in life. She further said that “ Gloabal education will help the students to develop cross cultural communication skills.”

           After that the Chief-Guest of the programme Dr. Paul C.B Chellakumar, Founder and Patron: AAAOE, Senior Advisor to Cardiff University-U.K handled the session. He laid down the prerequisites for oveseas education and said that clearing examinations like GRE, TOEFL and IELTS are must and one needs to master communication skill to be successful. He also threw his insight on effective writing of 'Statement of Purpose' and the importance of 'Reccomendation letter' from renowned persons. He also discussed about the finance involved in overseas education and gave information about educational loan-Procedures and formalities. He also threw light on educational systems and opportunities available in USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand... etc.

          The second session was handled by Mr. Sabesan Manickavasagam, General Secretary, AAAOE, Representative- Johnson and Wales University, USA. He started his presentation with the famous quote “ Education is an investment.” He advised the students to 'plan purposefully' and said that overseas education is all about planning. He motivated the students to develop their communication and soft skills, which is the key factor for getting placed in companies both in overseas and India. His presentation was focussed upon various scholarships available in different countries and the course options available for different streams of Engineering. He also highlighted other popular studies in abraod viz. Management, Business, Law, Multimedia...etc. He explored the avenues of part time jobs, occupational and vocational training...so on.

                  The Principal, Dr. S. Kathirrvelu, gave the concluding remarks and shared his experiences abraod. He said “The real education lies within you and you have to nurture it and exhibit it to the whole world.” He recalled the famous quote “ As long as I live, so long do I learn.”
