12th State Level Inter School Foot Ball Tournament

State level Inter school Foot Ball Tournament was hosted by Vickram College of Engineering on 03-02-17 and 04-02-17. There were 16 vibrant teams from various schools which participated with remarkable zest. The Tournament was inaugurated by Joint Secretary of Vickram College Of Engineering Mr.M.S.Vickram, and he gave the presidential address to the gathering. At the end of first day, four teams Muthaiya Alagappa Hr. Sec. School, Karraikudi, Savitha Bai school, Madurai, De Nobili Matriculation School, Madurai and Don Bosco Matriculation school madurai were qualified for the semi-final match.

 

In the first semi final, De Nobili Matriculation School, Madurai met Don Bosco Matriculation school madurai, and in the Second semi final, Muthaiya Alagappa School Karraikudi met Savitha Bai school, Madurai, and clashed vigorously. At the end of semi finals, De Nobili Matriculation School, Madurai and Savitha Bai school, Madurai, entered the finals by beating their rivals respectively. After facing a series of tough matches Savitha Bai school, Madurai, emerged as Laurel - Winners, De Nobili Matriculation School secures the position of being the Runners and Muthaiya Alagappa Hr. Sec. School occupies the Third position. Fourth position is secured by Don Bosco Matriculation school, Madurai.

 

Savitha Bai school Madurai bagged the Vickram Trophy after a tough fight. It has won a cash award of Rs.3000 along with the winners Rolling trophy. De Nobili Matriculation School won the runners up Rolling Trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 2000. Muthaiya Alagappa Hr. Sec. School, secured third position and was offered with a cash prize of Rs.1000 and T-Shirts were given to all the players.

 

Valedictory function was organised to honour the triumphant teams on 04.02.17. The Valedictory function started with the invocation and Mr.M.Senthilkumar, Physical Director, Vickram College of Engineering delivered the welcome address. Mr.M.S.Vickram, Joint Secretary ,Vickram College of Engineering delivered the presidential address and appreciated the participants for participating. He said that sports and games are activities which makes a person more capable with high level efficiency and it removes the mental exhaustion and makes a person capable to do any hard work. He also said in the modern education system, sports has been made an integral part of the education to make education interesting, tension free and enjoyable. He concluded his speech by encouraging the participants to do exercise regularly which can also be a powerful mechanism for alleviating stress. And he distributed the prizes. And the program ended with the National Anthem. The program was well organised by Dr.Nagarajan, Principal, Vickram College of Engineering and Mr.M.Senthilkumar, Physical Director, Vickram College of Engineering .

Helmet Awareness Rally

Vickram College of Engineering organised a Helmet Awareness Rally on 5th January 2017 in Poovanthi, Sivagangai District at 4.00 pm in collaboration with Poovanthi Police Station. Er. M.S.Vikram, Joint Secretary, Vickram Group of Institutions inaugurated the program and flagged off the Helmet awareness rally from Poovanthi to Melur, in the presence of Thiru. Muthukumar, the Inspector of Poovanthi Police Station.

Nearly 50 students and staff members from Vickram College of Engineering and Vickram Polytechnic College joined hands with Poovanthi Police to organise this motorbike rally to highlight the imperative need for wearing helmets while driving two-wheelers and emphasized the importance of road safety rules and traffic rules. The students carried placards and banners underlining the importance of using helmets in saving the precious lives, marched through the main thoroughfares. The students along with the police distributed pamphlets to two-wheeler riders at vantage locations describing the importance of wearing helmets and significance of the High Court directive. The police team extended their heartfelt thanks to the College and students.

Dr. S. Nagarajan, the Principal of Vickram College of Engineering, Tmt. Palaniselvam, the Principal of Vickram Polytechnic College and Tmt. Sasikala, the Sub- Inspector of Poovanthi Police Station, participated in  this program and took part in the rally.

The program was organised by Mr.Senthil, Physical Director, and professors of both the institution.

REPORT ON INAUGURATION OF TCS IRM CENTER

Vickram College of Engineering in association with TCS started TCS IRM centre in the college campus on 18th November 2016. Dr.G.Viswanathan, Founder& Chairman, VIT University inaugurated the TCS IRM centre and presided over the function. The program started with invocation. Dr.S.Nagarajan, Principal, Vickram College of Engineering delivered the welcome address. Mr.M.K.S.Sreenivasan, the Chairman, Vickram Group of Institutions delivered the presidential address. In his speech he felt very happy to have tie up with TCS by utilizing the space available in college effectively and inturn TCS also provides internships, inplant training and projects at TCS . He said that the college gives training on soft skills and competitive skills and highlighted that 80% of our eligible students got selected in campus interviews. He advised the students to use this center to enhance their skills and to play a vital role in getting placed. He also insisted the students to use social media in correct sense and to update their skills. He said that man should fulfil his responsibilities in respective ages. He introduced the chief guest by appreciating his hard work and dedication even in his seventies. He cordially invited the chief guest to deliver his speech.

 

The Chief Guest Dr. G.Viswanathan, Founder& Chairman, VIT University, delivered the Chief Guest address on ethics, which students should follow for the betterment of the nation. He also talked about the importance of Tamil Language and its culture. He quoted that India is rich but Indians are poor as less priority is given to higher education. He compared India with China in all aspects and he motivated the youngsters to bring changes in society in all fields to strengthen our Nation's economy. He encouraged the students to set up a corruption free India. He also shared his own experience with four Chief Ministers as MP and MLA. He talked about the simplicity of various leaders like Shri.Anna Durai and Shri.Kamaraj who were the former Cheif Ministers of Tamilnadu. He insisted the students to have them as their role model to overcome the hurdles in life. He gave a clear picture about paying tax to the goverment which paves way for the sustainable improvement in the society. He said that only 3% of people are paying tax in our nation when compared to other developed countries where the contribution is more than 50% and its the duty of the youngsters to induce awareness in paying the tax according to their income among the people. He encourged the students to go for agriculture and manufacturing industry which increases the job opportunites in India rather than service industries which is more volatile. He also spoke about the importance of electing a proper leader with honesty.

 

In his speech he advised the students to read Thirukural the uncomparable book in the World, that provides solution to all the problems and holds the needed virtues and values. He also insisted the students to be good as well as efficient in their life. And he concluded the speech by stressing that intergity and honesty are the essential qualities especially to the younger generation.

 

Thiru.S.Manishwar Raja, Regional Passport Officer, Madurai was the guest of honor. He gave a brief description about the digital system which is used in the goverment sectors particularly in passport office that eased the passport application process without any interference of touts. He encouraged the students to use maximum use of the TCS IRM centre by adopting a nearby village and digitalizing it. On behalf of the audience he gave assurance to the Chief Guest that the ethics which he insisted to bring up the change in the society will be adopted. Ms.A.B.Gurulakshmi, Vickram College of Engineering, delivered the vote of thanks. And the program ended with the National Anthem.

Report on BIGBANG 2016

Science activities and experiments make learning science with fun and no doubt excite kids to cognize about the possibilities of power of science. To prove this fact, Vickram College of Engineering organised a one day workshop BIGBANG 2016 for school students to explore and experiment science on 25th November 2016 in the college premises. The main focus of the event is to exhibit and explicate the cool side of Science. Mr.M.K.S.Sreenivasan, the Chairman, Shri.S.R.Vijay Shrenivas, the Managing Director, Shri. M.S.R.Raj Santhosh, the Secretary Shri.M.S.Vikram, the Joint Secretary, of Vickram Group of Institutions, took an ardent involvement and presided over the function. Over hundred and sixty students from twenty eight different schools from Madurai, Melur, Sivagangai, Thirupavanam and Manamadurai accompanied the workshop.

The program began with invocation and Mrs.D.Pritima, Assistant Professor from Department of Mechanical Engineering, welcomed the gathering. Dr.Nagarajan, the Principal of Vickram College of Engineering introduced the objective of the workshop to the audience. Shri.S.R.Vijay Shrenivas, the Director of Vickram College of Engineering delivered the presidential address. He said that the aim of this event was to engage the children with a variety of science concepts in a funny way. He motivated the students to watch Discovery Channels to gain knowledge on Science. He appreciated the initiative taken by LMES Academy to promote Science to youngsters. He also congratulated the participants for their participation and urged them to do more practice on Scientific innovations.

Ms.P.Hamsa Priya, Principal, Mahatma Montessori School, Madurai delivered the chief guest address. To start with, she thanked the management of the college for arranging this workshop, especially for the students. Moreover she mentioned that every thing is based on science and she illustrated Hussain Bolt’s achievement in Sports which has a parallel relations with science. She also stated about the educational system which is acquiring progress day by day. She said that CBSE schools have banned using leather, as it is manufactured from animal’s skin. She uttered that science has the solution for all and for instance, the recent invention of Leather made from mushrooms, can be used as an alternative. She described the STEM (Science,Technology,Engineering,and Mathematics) Curriculam, which is gaining popularity and urging the students to go beyond books and researches. She said that nature plays a vital role in science. She gave some examples like needles were invented by observing mosquitoes and similarly Helicopters from dragon fly. She concluded her speech by insisting the significance of patience and keen observance, which help the youngsters to think well. She also advised the students to lead a happy, healthy and prosperous life by observing science and internalising it.

Thiru. Premanand Sethurajan, the guest of honour gave the difference between scientists and engineers by illustrating APJ.Abdul Kalam and Thomas Alwa Edison. He encouraged the students to become innovative engineers like the same. Shri.M.S.Vikram, Joint Secratary of Vickram College of Engineering delivered the Vote of thanks. And the program was adjourned for Technical activities.

The Technical activities started with the demonstration given by Thiru. Premanand Sethurajan, the Founder and CEO of LMES Academy. The event was free and had hands-on activities that explored a range of science concepts including magnetism, air, water and biodiversity. The experiments also demonstrated that science is fun and applicable to many areas of everyday life. The demonstrated events are as follows:

Balloon pin and walk on eggs, Elephant Paste, Homopolar Motor, Make a ball to float in air,Inseparable notebooks, Invisible Glass, Ruben’s tube, Egg in the bottle, Ping Pong balls explosion, Vandegraff Generator and Dry ice waterfalls.

No doubt the students from various schools involved themselves in the above mentioned experiments and learnt the methods of scientific projects with fun.

Vigilance Awareness Week

Vickram College of Engineering in collaboration with the Canara Bank organised the an awareness program in order to eradicate the corruption in the society on 1.11.16 at 12 p.m in Ramanujam Conference Hall, as a part of Vigilance Awareness Week from 31.10.16 to 5.11.16. The college Chairman, Er.M.K.S.Srinivasan, the Director, Er. S.R.Vijay Srinivas and Dr.S.Nagarajan the Principal,extended their ardent involvement by taking part in the program. Moreover, the teaching staff, the non-teaching staff and the students from various disciplines took part in the program.

The welcome address was given by the Principal Dr. S.Nagarajan. He greeted the dignitaries from Canara Bank in his address and also insisted the students to present their perspectives regarding corruption. Mr.Santhanam, the Divisional and the Vigilance Officer from Canara Bank, gave a detail description about the Vigilance Awareness Week, where they are dealing with some preventive measures to abolish bribary and corruption. He also motivated the students to have a long fight towards corruption, which has to be to wiped out entirely in their life time. Moreover, he invited the participants to come forward, to submit their statements regarding the same.

Mrs. Manonmanium, the Principal, B.ED College, the students namely, Meenakshi Sundaram, Amirthalingam, Abinaya and Parathasarthy from I Year, voluntarily came forward and clarified their doubts about corruption. Mr.Santhanam, the Divisional and the Vigilance Officer, explained about the existing status of corruptness, and gave some suggestions to get rid of it.

Then the participants were asked to take pledge to annihilate corruption. After the pledge, the voluntaries,who expressed their remarks on Corruption were rewarded with gifts, they also distributed sweets to all participants. Finally Mr. Vembu, the Senior Manager from Canara Bank, gave the Vote of thanks.
