Passion Test

Nothing great has ever been accomplished without passion. This aphorism leaves a message that we may have to relentlessly pursue what we want.
But what is that we want? What is that, that could be called as a purpose of life to pursue? Is it a good idea that could be commercialized or a recognition of topping the university exams or a endeavor that will change the way people look at themselves or a pursuit to change the lives of people? What is the action that needs the fuel of the passion?
Leaders who create extraordinary new possibilities are passionate about their mission and tenacious in pursuit of it. Many people have good ideas, but many fewer are willing to put themselves on the line for them.
As I read in an article from HBS a line that haunted me - “Passion separates good intentions and opportunism from real accomplishments.” This shook me up.  A reminder of this principle just hit the news. Dr. Donald Berwick, is being nominated by US President Obama to head Medicare and Medicaid, a landmark bill that was passed to offer better health services at a lower cost with insurance norms relaxed and redefined.
Just a small brief of Dr.Don Berwick to those who missed the news for an IPL match or a TV soap opera -  a pediatrician, passionately wanted to improve health outcomes for patients. He envisioned applying TQM (Total Quality Management) tools from manufacturing to health care. Entrenched interests with closed doors and minds didn't deter him. Eventually, through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the small organization he founded, he reached thousands of hospitals, hundreds of thousands of practitioners, and millions of patients over two decades.
Don knew this would be a long journey against hardened resistance but never veered off the course. Now, if his nomination is confirmed, he can guide a huge system entirely— a high proportion of the U.S. economy — toward better health at lower cost, zero defects, and more lives saved. He exudes not just vision but personal passion for the cause.
Are you the next Don Berwick ?
May be or May be not...! Continue reading…
Perhaps, you are just thinking about doing your part to make “the world*” a better place.  “The world” – can be your family, society, state, country or biosphere… This emotion – let me call, Aspiration.
The aspirations are good enough to be Life’s objectives and can help yourself enjoy a purposeful life. But, that differentiates the one from being super successful. It can push somebody to change the course and redefine the objectives succumbing to the challenges. All is fair for the one, as reasoning prevails but the one is aware or willing to acknowledge that the reasoning is something what he wants to believe.
I recommend that passion cannot be excluded at all. If you are not able to put your heart into it, take yourself out of it. You would waste the shortest time available for you (lifetime) otherwise.
On the other hand, lustrous passion is also of no use without aspirations. Passion without action would eventually be dusted down as a dream.
To determine whether your passion matches your aspirations, try these 11 questions.
1.       Do I feel strongly about the need for this?
2.       Does the idea fit my long-held beliefs, values, and convictions?
3.       Have I dreamed about something like this for a long time?
4.       Do I think that this is vital for the future of people (the world*) I care about?
5.       Do I get excited when I think about it, and convey excitement when I talk about it?
6.       Am I convinced that this can be accomplished?
7.       Am I willing to put my credibility, strengths and abilities on the line to promise action on it?
8.       Can I make this the major focus of my activities?
9.       Am I willing to stretch on the time lines compromising comforts, to see that this happens?
10.   Do I feel strongly enough to ignore negativity and fight for this?
11.   Am I committed to seeing this through, over the long haul?
Passing the passion test is doesn't guarantee success, but without it, the journey couldn’t even begin.

Cheers!!!

HOW GOOD A PAINTER YOU WERE...

At Birth, your life was a plain canvas.
Your potential is the colours
Your choices are the strokes on the canvas.

At death, this canvas
Will either be a treasured masterpiece
Or an unnoticed scribbling

That would be the judgment day
On how good a painter you were
In painting your life...

WHAT CAN WE DO...???

International Women's Day was celebrated around the world on 8 March 2010. It is a day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women. Woman or in plural women...can be considered as the centre part of this world or core of the earth, she is life and adorned with the gift of bringing forth the life... every man is surrounded with women in various forms as mothers, grand others, sisters, wives, daughters, friends, colleagues, every quality of women and their elegance. They are charming, loving and at moments very scaring like all the qualities of this earth or nature in large. Besides, woman is power. We were successful to make women believe that they were weak and fragile. But woman is the queen of her house and rules the household from behind the curtains.

After a successful celebration of this special day for women, that is the woman's day, it is apt if one could pass across a message that has to be put up or rather an appeal. Please realise the biggest challenge that is facing the very existence of the human race on this planet. Become aware of the climate change and global warming. With our own deeds and efforts we have torn apart this beautiful planet and are now facing the consequences as we did to women.

The plea to all women is educate your men...try and find our little things that are threatening the planet. It can be anything like how much water you are wasting while washing the clothes or dishes or running the refrigerator when it's almost empty.

My appeal to women on this day is ... help our mother earth...educate your children on climate change and bang the ears of your husbands and fathers when they involve themselves in eco-dangerous activities...if woman is centre of everything...she can save this entire world... i strongly believe this world will be saved because of the slender and nimble fingers of you all women.
I salute you all women...

SAIL

“I’m not afraid of storms, for I’m learning how to sail my ship.” says Louisa May Alcott. When your “life storms” come, do you duck for cover or, like Louisa May Alcott, are you able to face them fearlessly, secure in your ability to “sail your ship”? Learning how to properly respond to life’s events can make the difference between a life full of aggravation and turmoil and a life filled with inspiration.

A book, "In Simply an Inspired Life (SAIL), authors Mary Anne Radmacher and Jonathan Lockwood Huie explore letting go of fear and learning how to navigate our own lives. The truth of the matter is that the more we like ourselves, the fewer expectations we have, the more consciously we make choices—in everyday matters large and small—the more inspired our lives can be. Mary Anne says this about the book - "SAIL is a great reminder for students of life who need uplifting. It is a clarifying instrument for people who are struggling with failed expectations and consistent disappointments in their lives. Jonathan and I bring our two voices and differing life experiences to the 'compass point' of this book. Our two voices bring an interesting perspective to the Eight Points which we identify and explore in living simply an inspired life."

If you’ve ever felt like lost at sea - dark, deep, salty and no life boats, Simply an Inspired Life is a book that will provide you with navigational tools and insights to help you find smooth sailing despite any type of waters.

Excerpted from Simply an Inspired Life by Mary Anne Radmacher & Jonathan Lockwood Huie

What does an Inspired Life look like?

You are living an Inspired Life when you are consistently joyful, compassionate, loving, and thankful to be exactly who you are, regardless of external events and circumstances. You no longer suffer from blame, disappointment, and worry. You appreciate the distinction between events and your feelings about those events, and you are consistently able to choose a joyful interpretation of events.
If I’m living an Inspired Life, can I still break a leg? Unfortunately, yes. An Inspired Life is about choosing your response to physical events rather than about changing those events.

Have you heard the ancient story of the blind men and the elephant? One man touched the elephant’s leg and concluded that the leg was the elephant. One touched the trunk and concluded that the trunk was the elephant. One touched the tail, and concluded that the tail was the elephant. Others touched other parts, and each concluded that the part he touched was the elephant.

Each blind man touched the part of the elephant that was nearest to him and assumed that he had learned the nature of the elephant.

Like the blind men, we touch some part of life and assume it to be the entire nature of life. We look at life from the perspective of our heritage, our community, and our experience and we assume we fully appreciate all of life.

We invite you to challenge your perspectives and your belief systems—whatever they are. We should not create a little crack in your assumptions and expectations of life, allowing light to shine through.

Thanks... happy reading...

FOUR WAYS OF LOOKING AT A CAR

AS A FUEL- FREE RIDE

It looks like a lunar Lander, but what’s really out of this world about venture eclectic tribrid is that-for short distances, at least-it can be powered entirely by wind and sun. Thanks to its onboard wind turbine, a mere breeze can juice the car’s battery enough to provide 14 kilometers of driving. You get five to six more kilometers from solar panels on the roof(to go farther than the grocery store, you need the car’s plug-in battery).Without sides, the venturi is not the safest, although its designers say it’s intended more for errand running than for highway driving. In 2007, the company sold 200 early versions of the car for $33,000 each; more mainstream models were unveiled in October. Whether or not this particular car catches on, the hope is that its innovative technology will.

VENTURI ECLECTIC

VENTURI ECLECTIC

AS A THRILL RIDE

As cars become smaller and sleeker with our changing energy needs, the experience of driving is likely to morph too. Enter the ventureone, from a us manufacture and a Dutch engineering firm. It’s one of half a dozen three-wheel concept cars being developed that combine the fuel savings of hybrid with the excitement of riding something like motorcycle. In this case, the car is the same height and length as a mini cooper, but the car’s pilot-er.driver-is enclosed in the single front seat by a glass canopy.(another passenger can sit in the single backseat.)And on a quick turn--yee-ha!-the vehicle tilts to one side. The cars are priced at about $25,000 and go on sale in early 2010.

AS THE NEW BUG

When the Rs1lakh(or nearabout) Nano debuted at the New Delhi car show last januvary,it was heralded as “transformational”, That’s because the four door,three-metre-long sub-subcompact from tatamotors puts driving within reach of an entirely new segment of the worlds population-India’s millions of motorbike and scooter rides. Other Asian markets are next, but experts say that the prospect of the whole third world on four wheels could have outsize negatives(think global gridlock and massive co2 emissions). Not that developed countries have much right to complain about anyone else’s fuel consumption: California currently burns more petrol than all of India.

AS GOOD, CLEAN FUN

You know you’d feel smart driving an emission-free car. But the tesla roadster_an all-electric sports car—is proving that losing a tailpipe can be stylish too. The two seater, which looks (and costs) more like a Porsche than a prius, not only accelerates from zero to 100 in four seconds but gets more than 320 kilometers per charge. And it’s powered entirely by its lithium-ion battery, unlike hybrids, which have two separate systems: an electric motor and a petrol engine. The downside? meeting demand. though the company has taken orders for more than 10000 of the six-figure vehicles, it has delivered only 30;the plan is to roll out close to 2000 this year.

Most of the books I had read in my early days were always based on some positive feedback from my friends. I have always realised choosing a right book is such a masterly work, and if you miss one good book it is just like you missing a good friend at that time.
