Road accidents have always been an inescapable act however hard one tries to stick on to the ways to prevent it. Vickramce came forward to create consciousness, and appreciate individuals who adhere to the road rules by celebrating '' Road Safety Programme'' on 18 Jan. '13. The event was held under the headship of our Management, Principal, A.O., and the Dean, I yr. at two venues: the college entrance, and poovanthi bus stop. 50 NSS students, pursuing B.E.,who were involved in the programme stuck reflectors on all the vehicles that passed by and advised the public on road safety. Placards with road rules and slogans designed were kept in array for easy view. We observed around 25 people with helmets. To encourage them on their commitment, we profferd them with sweets; and also insisted other commuters to wear helmes while riding. The Department of Police, Poovanthi gave their fullest support throughout the programme so as not to cause much traffic. We extend our gratitude to our Department of Transport for their earnest cooperation towards the programme.
The event had duo purpose: the public were cautioned of their safety, and it also served as an eyeopener for our young students who took a vow that they would indeed follow what they preached the public.
Vickramce in collaboration with Primary Health Centre, Poovanthi & Blood Bank, Sivagangai organised a one-day blood donation drive at the college premises on 25 Jan. '13. The programme began at 10 a.m. with an inaugural ceremony wherein the Principal, Dr. S. Kathirrvelu addressed the group of the necessity in donating blood, and congratulated the young donors for exhibiting their interest towards the same. The event was graced under the head of Dr. N. Agalya, DDHS, Sivagangai; and Mrs. Sethuramu and Mr. Venkatachalam, Medical Counsellor, Medical College, Sivagangai. 51 units of blood were collected from the students of various years & faculty members. Including the drive held today, the NSS unit of the college has successfully conducted 3 drives in this academic year.
A seven day NSS camp was organised between 19th and 25th March, 2012 by the college at Poovanthi. The Chairman Mr. M.K.S Sreenivasan presided over the function. There were several competitions held for the students of Government schools. The students actively participated in the drawing and the singing competitions and won many prizes. The Director Mr. SR.Vijayshrenivas, Joint Secretary-Mr. M.S Vikram, Principal-Dr. S. Kathirrvelu and Administrative Officer, Prof. S. Nagarajan were the dignitaries who graced the function.
The experts from various fields addressed the gathering on various subjects viz. AIDS, Blood Donation, Cleanliness, Health and Hygiene, First-Aid, Women's Health, Medical Counselling and Awareness etc. 35 units of blood were collected in this camp and handed over to the Government Hospital, adding up to nearly 300 units of blood contributed by the college this year. The Valedictory function was presided by the Secretary Mr. M.SR. Rajsanthosh. The President and the Vice-President of Poovanthi extended their hands in conducting the camp to its beauty and splendour. The programme reached to its glory with the able guidance and support of the Management and coordination of NSS Programme Officers Ms. Advent and Mr. Gopi .
We organized a District Level Sports Meet for Physically Challenged People on 14/03/2012 in Race course Stadium Madurai. More than 250 people participated in this sports meet. The event was inaugurated by Mr. N. Dhanapal Assistant Commissioner of Police, Madurai. Participants were from Anbagam, Nirmala Girls Higher Secondary School, Indian Association of Blind – Sundarajanpatti, Deaf and Dumb School, Viraganoor. We conducted running, Walking, Standing Long Jump, Discus throw, and Soft ball throw. Finally prize distribution ceremony was honoured by Chairman and Joint Secretary. Who handed over the prizes for winners.

2. 20 Aug. '10, Rajiv Gandhi Day was celebrated & a pledge was taken amongst public to maintain peace in every aspect.
3. Green Marathon for the physically impaired persons was organized on 29 Aug. '10.
4. On 8 Sept. '10, Fire Extinguisher Usage & First Aid Measures were elaborated to the students.
5. For the first time, vaccine for Jaundice was injected for all students & interested persons on 6 Oct. '10.
6. Lung check-up & Free Council were given on 8 Oct. '10, and 19 Oct. '10.
7. Saplings were planted on 11 Oct. '10 as a sign of new life & growth.
8. The consequences of AIDS & its prevention were shown through a short film on 20 Oct. '10. Prizes were given to the winners & the participants of Short story writing, and
Drawing competition.
9. On 10 Sept. '10 & 3 Dec. '10, Jaundice vaccination was injected for the second & third time respectively.
10. A sum of rupee 2000/- was donated towards the Blind School on 29 Sept. '10.
11. The Govt. Primary School at Thirumancholai was made dirt-free by the service of our NSS students. And the children were taught of the importance of cleanliness & the methods to sustain
them.
12. Typhoid vaccination was injected on 3 Feb. '11.
13. Poovanthi Higher Secondary students were preached of the essence of discipline & classes were held on the same focusing on justice & righteous laws on 15 Mar. '11.
14. On 16 Mar. '11, Poovanthi's Primary School students were enlightened of village cleanliness by Dr. Kalipandian.
15. Our chairman Mr. M.K.S. Sreenivasan offered prizes to meritorious students of Poovanthi Higher Secondary school. He further touched upon commitment at one's duty to lead a meaningful
& dedicated life. And to the primary children, he distributed prizes to the winners of Drawing & Singing events, and gave consolation prizes to all participants.
16. Red Cross Co-ordinator, Mr. Jose, lectured on the “Essential of Donation of Blood” on 17 Mar. '11 & Health Centre officer of GH, Madurai lectured on “Women's Health.”
17. The HR Development officer Mr. Rajkumar spoke of studies related to various institutions; following which our students were involved in removal of bushes & weeds at the Madurai-
Sivagangai Road.
18. Awareness Programme for young men & women between the age group 17 to 21 was organized under the chair-personship of Mrs. Kulson Beevi, Counsellor of Poovanthi GH on 19 Mar.

20. On 12 Mar. '11, Red Cross club member, Mr. Sekar spoke of the ill-effects of AIDS & the ways of its prevention.

These were the NSS activities of the academic year 2010-2011. We look forward to organize more programmes & activities towards the safety of the public & our environment.
I hope 2011-2012 will be a better year in VICKRAMCE.
The NSS Advisory Committee Meeting was conducted on 20th Aug. ’11 in Vickram College of Engineering. Mrs. Advent, NSS Co-coordinator delivered the welcome address; while Dr. S. Kathirrvelu, Principal, gave the presidential address. This was followed by the presentation of the Annual NSS Report 2010-2011 by Mrs Advent. Mr. Gopi, NSS Co-coordinator proposed the vote of thanks.
"A-One Day Blood Donation Camp” was organized on the same day in association with Primary Health Centre, Poovanthi & Govt. Many students actively participated in this and donated blood as a sign of service.
