NSS CAMP AT POOVANTHI

                          A seven day NSS camp was organised by the NSS team at Poovanthi. The Chairman presided over the function. There were several competitions held for the students of Government schools. The students actively participated in the drawing and the singing competitions and won many prizes. The Director, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Principal, Dean and Administrative Officer were the dignitaries who graced the function. The experts in various domains addressed the gathering on various subjects viz. AIDS, Blood Donation, Cleanliness, Health and Hygiene, First-Aid, Women's Health, Medical Counselling and Awareness etc. Mr.K.S.J Rajkumar from the Ministry of Human Resources also addressed the gathering. He spoke about “Importance of Technical Education for all”. The President of Poovanthi Mr. A.R.P.V Rajamani and the Vice-President Mr. Mari extended their hands in conducting the camp to its beauty and splendour.

SPORTS MEET ON WORLD DISABLED DAY

A sports meet for Differently Abled students was organised by the College at MGR stadium, Madurai on 15th March, 2011. There were 146 Differently Abled students ( Deaf & Dumb, Dwarf, Blind, Orthopaedically Handicapped, Mentally Retarded) from various Institutes like Upakar, Nirmala Girls Higher Secondary School, Indian Association for Blind...etc who actively participated in this sports meet. The objective of this event was to grace the Differently Abled students and spread awareness among the people to encourage these physically challenged students and also to get inspiration from them to encounter all the difficulties in life boldly.

The Inaugural Function started with the welcome address given by the Principal of B.Ed College - Ms. Premalatha. Dr. R. Vijayan, MBBS., MS., FAIS., FICS Chairman, Srinivasa Hospital, Madurai declared the sports meet open and said “One can overcome any physical disability by pure mental strength”. Mr. M.K.S Sreenivasan-Chairman, presided over the function .The function was graced by Mr. M.SR. Rajsanthosh-Secretary , Mr. M.S Vikram- Joint Secretary and Mr. Bagyaraj- Manager, Indian Bank. After the flag off by the Chief-Guest, track and field events started with full swing. There were many events conducted for these students viz. Running Race, Walking race, Standing long jump, Discus throw, Shot Put, Volleyball, Soft Ball throw...etc. The students enthusiastically participated in all these events and their commitment was praiseworthy.

The Chief-Guest for the Valedictory function was Mr. B.T Bangera, Managing Director, Hi-Tech Arai, Pvt. Ltd. Madurai. In his valedictory address he said that the efforts taken by Vickram Schools and Colleges is quite commendable and encouraged the Differently Abled students to never give up in life. In his address the Chairman said “God has created every individual with one or the other talent and it is their duty to identify that inherent talent and explore it to the best”. After that the prize distribution ceremony was held and the winners were rewarded with certificates and gifts as a token of encouragement. Participation certificates were given to all the other students.

AIDS awareness programme

AIDS awareness programme was conducted in our college for First year, Second year and Third year students on 12-02-2011 at conference hall. In the programme a film was shown to create awareness on AIDS among the students.

'COMPETITIONS 2010'- AN AIDS AWARENESS PROGRAMME

                               Red Ribbon Club,Madurai and RRC wing of the college jointly organized Drawing and Story Writing Competition on the theme ' Evils and Abolition of AIDS' on 20-10-10 at the college conference hall. Around 40 students from I and II year participated in this competition.Dr.S.Kathirrvelu, Principal initiated the proceedings. This competition was judged by the team of experts from RRC, Madurai and the shortlisted students were awarded prizes and certificates. The Prize Distribution Function was presided by Mr. V.M Jose from RRC,Madurai. Mr.J.R.Surenderan-Programme Coordinator and Mr.N.Nagarajan,Health Educator,Red Ribbon Club, Madurai were the other distinguished guests present in this function. The Management and the Principal acknowledged their appreciation for the success of the event.

Medical Awareness Camp on Asthma & Respiratory Disorders

  A one day Medical Awareness Camp on Asthma and Respiratory Disorders was conducted at the first year block on Friday, 8th October, 2010, for the students of Engineering, Polytechnic, Teacher Training and B.Ed college. This programme was organised by the team of NSS. More than 700 students and the staff underwent general and special check-up, free of cost by the medical team headed by Dr.P.Prabhakaran, M.D; (Pulmonology), Devadoss Multispeciality Hospital. Through this camp the students and the staff not only reaped the benefits of the medical check-up but also gained information about the cause of respiratory disorders and the precautions to be taken to avoid such disorders. The medical team appreciated the efforts taken by the Management for the successful conduct of this event.

Hepatitis-B Vaccination Camp

                A one day Hepatitis-B Vaccination Camp was conducted for the students and staff on 6th october 2010,with the help of  the camp organizer Mr. T.Sivakumar of Vaccine Point, Madurai. The programme was coordinated by Ms.R.S Diana Sangeetha and Mr.K.Baskaran of the Department of Chemistry. More than 300 students and the staff took advantage of this program. A medical team headed by Dr.Ranjith from Vaccine Point rendered their service to the perfection.
