Our Football team from Vickram Polytechnic College won Second prize in the Madurai Divisional Level Inter Polytechnic Football Tournament held at NPR Polytechnic College, Natham between 02-09-10 to 04-09-10. A total of  22 teams participated in this tournament. The Management, Staffs and the Students express their hearty wishes and congratulations to the winners.      

                                4th Zonal Level Football Tournament was held between 25-8-10 and 27-8-10. A total of 15 teams from various parts of Tamilnadu participated in this tournament. Quarter-Final matches were played on 25-8-10. Four teams qualified for the Semi-Finals which was held on 26-8-10. In the First Semi-Final match, PSNA Dindigul beat RVSCET,Dindigul and in the second Semi-Final match ACCET, Karaikudi beat SSCET,Palani. The two teams which took birth in the Finals of 4th Zonal Level Football Tournament Anna University Trichy -2010 were PSNA, Dindigul and ACCET, Karaikudi. The Final match was played on 27-8-10 in which PSNA Dindigul beat ACCET, Karaikudi by 3 golas to Nil. Thandin Vavagyel,Younten, Antony Ananth Raj from PSNA,Dindigul scored one goal each to see through their team winning convincingly.

                             A Prize Distribution function was held on 27-8-10. Dr.S.Kathirrvelu, Principal addressed the gathering. He said that involvement in sports helps the individual to increase focus and concentration not only in the ground but also in the other walks of life. He congratulated the winners and other participants of the tournament and encouraged them to strike a balance between sports and studies. He thanked the Joint Secretary M.S Vikram, Vickram College of Engineering and the team of Physical Directors for making this event a grant success. The function was graced by the Administrative Officer Mr. A.Nagarajan. Winners Cup was given by the Principal Dr.S.Kathirrvelu and Runners Up cup was given by the Dean,Mr.M.Palanikumar.Mr.C.Yuvaraj, Physical Director proposed the vote of thanks.

Tony S.Puthiyedam of IIIrd Year EEE bags Third position in 400 mtrs Sprint the recently held Athletic meet organised by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu in association with Tamil Nadu AIDS control society. This event was held on 28-07-10 at Sivagnaga District sports Stadium.

Bravo! March ahead with Victory.

The Physical Education Department under the able guidance of Mr.M.S Vickram, Joint Secretary organised a special program on 17th July,2010 in the conference hall. In this function Mr.J.Andy Symington, renowed coach of Scotland League team addressed the Engineering and Polytechnic students. Dr.S.Kathirrvelu, Principal welcomed the gathering and appreciated the efforts taken to organise this function.

The Resource Person Mr.J.Andy Symington delivered the special address. He appreciated the management for the efforts taken to encourage the students to play football at higher level.After a short but effective speech,he switched on to an interactive training session which lasted for an hour.In this session he discussed about the team formation and the tactics involved in the football game.He encouraged the players to strike a balance between sports and studies. He conveyed the message that “A healthy mind vests in a healthy body”. More than 60 students got benefited through this program. The function was graced by the Dean  Mr.M.Palanikumar. The healthy interactive session came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by the Placement Officer, Mr.M.Ezhil Arasan.
 

Vickram Football Championship for Colleges was held at the College  ground on 11th and 12th February 2010.16 teams from various colleges participated in this tournament, including one from Kerala. The Inaugural Function was held on 11thFeb.2010, presided by Mr. R. Ilankovan, Chairman, Vishaal Promoters Pvt. Ltd.Madurai.The Chairman, Mr.M.K.S Sreenivasan welcomed the gathering.

On the first day; League and Quarter-Final Match was conducted. The players exhibited their skills and talent in the field and played the game with sportsman spirit. On 12th February, Valedictory Function was held. Mr.S.Kumaravelu, Assistant Commissioner of Police (IPS), Madurai was the Chief-Guest for this function. The Principal  Mr. M. Palanikumar welcomed the gathering. The Chairman Mr. M.K.S Sreenivasan congratulated the players and encouraged them with a quote ‘A sound mind vests in a sound body.’ Mr. R. Somasundaram, Assistant Commandant General-Home Guards, Madurai Range, delivered the special address. He said that the efforts taken by the Joint Secretary, Mr.M.S Vikram along with the team of Physical Directors  is commendable.

The final match was played between Shanmuganathan College of Engineering Pudhukottai and Mariam College of Engineering Kerala. Vickram Football Championship for Colleges-2010 was won by Mariam College of Engineering Kerala by scoring 2-1 and the trophy was given by the chief guest Mr.S.Kumaravelu. Mariam College of Engg. was given a cash prize of Rs.5000.Runners Up trophy and cash prize of Rs 3000 was given to Shanmuganathan College of Engineering. A cash prize of Rs.1000 for the third place was given to Syed Ammal college of Engg. Mr. C Yuvaraj Physical Director proposed the vote of thanks.

5th VICKRAM Football Championship for schools at district level was held  between 3rd and 4th December 2009. Nearly 20 schools participated from various districts. The inaugural function was held on 3rd December 2009, presided by Mr. R.Sadacharam,Secretary, Tamilnadu Football Association,Chennai. The Placement Officer, Mr.M.Ezhil Arasan,  welcomed the gathering. After that the Chief-Guest,Mr.R. Sadacharam gave a special address.In his speech he encouraged the players to play the game with sportsman spirit and stressed upon the need to involve oneself in sports activities for keeping oneself physically, mentally and socially fit. He also appreciated the Joint Secretary Mr. M.S Vikram  for conducting this event successfully for the past five years. After the conventional kick-Start of the ball by the Chief-Guest and the Chairman, the tournament started with the full swing.

On 4th December, Valedictory Function was held. Mr.A.Ganesan Asst.Commissioner of Police Madurai, presided over the function. The Principal Mr.M.Palanikumar welcomed the gathering.In his special address he appreciated the efforts taken by the management and the Physical Education Department for conducting the event successfully.The Chairman Mr.M.K.S Sreenivasan congratulated the players and encouraged them to be “Jack of all trades.” Final match was played between Subaiah Ambalam Matric School Karaikudi and Don Bosco Matric School Madurai.

5th Vickram Football Championship for Schools-2009 was won by Subaiah Ambalam Matric Higher secondary school karaikudi which was trained by the former Indian Football Player Mr.Raman Vijayan. The trophy was given by the Chief-Guest Mr.A.Ganesan.Cash prize of Rs.3000 was given to the winner and Rs.1500 was given to the Runner-Up team by the Chairman,Mr. M.K.S Sreenivasan.

The college Football team particiapated in the RVS Trophy(State Level Inter Engineering Colleges Football tournament 2010) and secured fouth place in the tournament.

This tournament was held between 3rd and 5th February 2010 at RVS college of Engineering and Technology, Dindugul. Our college Football team captain D.Suman of final year Mechanical received the cash prize of Rs.1000/= on behalf of the team.Physical Education Department is all praise for the team and encourages it to secure first position next time.

The college Cricket team participated in the KLN Krishnan Memorial rolling Trophy Cricket tournament which was held at KLN college of Engineering between 24th to 26th March 2010. The Captain of the team S.Balakumar of Final Year CSE led the team from the front and bagged third position for the college and received the cash award of Rs. 2000. Praise Joseph of IInd year EEE was declared the Best bowler of the tournament and P.Sureshkumar of IInd EEE was declared the Best All rounder of the tournament. Physical Education department wishes all the best for their future tournaments.

P.Suresh kumar of IIIrd Year EEE is selected as team player for India Cements Cricket Team. These third Division League Matches are conducted by Tamilnadu Cricket Association (TNCA). This hard working All rounder is all set to play under the banner of Galaxy Club.

District level chess competition for the students of schools of Madurai, Sivagangai, Ramnad and Virudunagar districts was held on 09-05-2010 at Vickram college of Engineering.

Dr.S. Kathirrvelu Principal of the college welcomed the gathering. Thiru.D.Kannan Additional Superintendent of Police, Sivagangai, graced the occasion as chief guest. Thiru.M.K.S.Sreenivasan Founder and Chairman, Vickram group of Educational Institutions, presided over the function. In  his presidential address, he has outlined the importance of  chess and other indoor games in schools and Colleges. 76 Students from 25 schools participated in the competition. S.Meenupriya of Seventh Day school secured the first prize in the under 14 years category, while S.Venkatesh of Nadar Hr.Sec.School obtained the first prize in the above 14 years category. Thiru.D.Kannan ADSP Sivagangai, distributed the prizes and the certificates to the victorious students. Professor M.Palanikumar, Dean of the college proposed the vote of thanks. Physical Directors B.Sugumaran, C.Yuvaraj, K.Thivakar and R.Vilvadurai have arranged the event successfully. The sports department, under the guidance of Er.M.S.Vikram, Joint secretary, made elaborate arrangement of the event which was conducted for first time in our college.
