Training Programme for The Final year students of Vickram Polytechnic College

A two day training programme on Resume Preparation and Group Discussion was conducted for the final year students of the Vickram Polytechnic College on 30-11-10 & 01-12-10. The sessions were handled by Mr. M. Ezhil Arasan and Mr. R. Chandra Sekharan of Placement & Training Dept. The various types, purpose and the advantages of GD and the resume' were discussed  through powerpoint presentation. The principal and staff  of Vickram Polytechnic college made the necessary arrangements for the successful conduction of the Programme. Around 220 students  from various branches participated.

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON ADVANCEMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND ITS APPLICATIONS 19th AND 20th NOVEMBER 2010

    

About 37 young faculty members from various Departments of different colleges such as Veltech-Chennai, KLN college of engineering, PSY college of engineering, Anna university-madurai, The American college, Ultra college of engineering,Latha Madhavan ,Adhiparasakthi college of Engineering, Manakulavinayagar college of tech-Pondichery, Vickram college of education and Vickram college of engineering participated.
The seminar was inaugurated by our Chairman Er.M.K.S.Sreenivasan, Chairman, Vickram group of institutions. Dr.R.David Chandrakumar, Professer and Head, Welcomed the gathering and Dr.S.Kathirrvelu, Principal, offered felicitations. Prof.M.Palanikumar, Dean and Prof.Nagarajan, A.O, participated.

Resource persons from reputed Institutions gave special lectures on various topics on applied mathematics.

1.Dr.G.Arivarignan, Professor and Head, Department of applied mathematics, Madurai Kamaraj university. His lecture on Stochastic process was full of practical examples and several techniques of solving them. Also several openings for doing research were cited.

2.Dr.K.Kannan, Professor and Dean, School of Humanities and sciences, Sastra university, Thanjavur.  He gave a long list of open problems in mathematics and especially in applied mathematics. He also highlighted that mathematics is widely used in solving problems in other sciences.

3.Dr.R Srikanth, Associate Professer and Dean(AC and RE), School of Humanities and sciences, Sastra university, Thanjavur. He began from the elementary Number Theory and linked with the latest technology developement of image processing. He also suggested for inter departmental research.

4.Dr.A.Sunnykuriakose, Principal, BPC college, Ernakulam, Kerala. He delivered a useful lecture on Fuzzy logic and he combined Fuzzy logic with other topics such as Stochastic process and Decision theory.

5.Dr.V.R.Dare, Professer and Head, Department of mathematics, Madras Christian college, Chennai. An authority in Automata theory, he began with the alphabet and developed in to a grammar and he gave lot of problems. He linked this with Chemistry, Biology and Membrane computing.

More than 15 participants presented research papers .

Special quiz program was conducted for the student participants.

In the validictory function, Ms.M.Selvarani welcomed the gathering , Dr.R.David Chandrakumar Summarized all the programs of two days seminar and the participants also gave the feedback, Ms.K.Regina Mary proposed Vote of Thanks.

PATH TOWARDS....... RESEARCH IN............. MATHEMATICS

A two day National Seminar on Advancement of Mathematics and Its Applications was organised by the Department of Mathematics in the college auditorium on 19th and 20th November, 2010. There were 32 scholars from various Arts and Science and Engineering colleges who registered their interest in the participation of this National Level Seminar.The objective of this seminar is to pave way not only to create interest in starting research leading to get Ph.D among the teachers, but also to improve and develop their knowledge in Maths and to enhance their teaching and research skills.

The inaugural function was held on November 19, 2010. Dr.R.David Chandrakumar, Convenor, Prof. & Head, Department of Mathemetics welcomed the gathering. The inaugural address was delivered by  the Chairman Er.M.K.S Sreenivasan. He said “A teacher rather than be a walking encyclopedia in a classroom, should be efficient to contribute to the advancement of the frontiers of knowledge. In view of knowledge explosion, it is imperative that teacher should stay on the frontiers of knowledge and one important way of doing this is to do research”. After honouring the guests,Dr.S.Kathirrvelu,Principal remarked that " The main purpose of higher education is to increase, diffuse and disseminate knowledge to serve the community".The Chief-Guest of the function was Dr.G.Arivaringnan, Prof. & Head,Department of Applied Mathematics, Madurai Kamaraj University. In his address he said “The Mathematicians interact, impress, inspire, initiate, and illustrate to make the young Mathematicians realize their goal”. Dr.K.Kannan,Professor & Dean,Sastra University gave a presentation on Image Processing while Dr.R.Srikanth,Associate Professor & Dean Sastra University gave his presentation on Number Theory.

On 20-11-10 Dr.A. Sunny Kuriakose,Professor and Principal,Cochin Universtiy discussed with the participants  on the topic Fuzzy Logic. He gave many real life illustrations and  connected it to Fuzzy Logic In the afternoon Dr.V.Rajkumar Dare,Professor & Head, Department of Maths, MCC,Chennai gave his presentation on the topic Automata Theory.

The valedictory function was held in the evening . Ms.M.Selvarani,Senior faculty of the Department of Mathematics welcomed the gathering. The Principal and the Dean, Prof.M.Palanikumar felicitated the guests. Dr.R.David Chandrakumar, Convenor, Prof. & Head, Department of Mathemetics summarised the event and said that research in Mathematics is not to make simple things complicated; but to make the appearing complicated things simple. The Principal thanked the Management for the motivation and support given to organise this seminar. He congratulated the Administrative Officer Prof. S.Nagarajan & Dr.R.David Chandrakumar, Convenor and his team for the success of the event. The participants were awarded certificate of merit for their participation. Ms. M.Regina Mary Senior faculty of Mathematics proposed the vote of thanks.

PROGRAMMES FROM TELECOM WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY

Centre for Wireless Research and Competency and Development (CWRCD), is an initiative of BSNL-RGM TTC ( Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Telecome Training Centre) and Nexgtech Research Labs ( An Altech Star-ETA Infotech Dubai Venture). The Centre offers certified Wireless Network Engineer and certified Wireless Development Professional. It also offers short-term training and project-based programmes. These programmes are designed for BE/BTech Engineers who can have a hands-on experience in Product Engineering, R&D, Network Engineering and Design,Telecom software/Firmware Development and Maintenance/Technical Support. CWRCD is a R&D centre where Ph.D aspirants, ME/MTech and BE/Btech Engineers can pursue their research and project works. ICTACT ACCEPTANCE OF FOUR PROJECT PROPOSALS OF ECE STUDENTS!

Four of the technical project proposals of final year ECE students were accepted by ICT Academy of Tamilnadu. Competition was fierce as they received over 300 projects from various Engineering / Arts & Science Colleges across the state.  Ultimately 29 projects were selected after a tight scrutiny. Among these 29, four project proposals of final year ECE students were in the limelight. Each project proposal was subjected to two independent reviewers, one by an Industrial expert and another by an Academic Expert, which were purely based on technical excellence and viability.

National Seminar On All Round Developments Achieved Through Advanced Technologies

A one day National Seminar was organised by 'The Institution of Engineers (India) Madurai Local Centre jointly with the college  on 15th October, 2010 (Friday) at 10.00 a.m at the college auditorium. This seminar was conducted on the theme 'All Round Developments Achieved Through Advanced Technologies.' After the invocation Er. S.Deenadayalan,Chairman Institute of Engineers (India) welcomed the gathering and appreciated the arrangements made by the Management, Principal and Staff of the College for conducting this seminar. After that the guests were honored by Er.V.Dhanaraj, Hon.Secretary,I.E.and Dr.S.Kathirrvelu,Principal. Er.M.K.S Sreenivasan M.E., Chairman gave a special address in which he said that this College has always been a forerunner in initiating any kind of seminar,function or awareness camp pertaining to the enrichment of the knowledge and information of the student and teacher community and will continue to do this in the future also. He also said that the college has always encouraged the students to upgrade themselves in the field of science and technology and has been giving scholarship to the 'have nots' to continue their education. He also announced that the there is also a proposal to introduce M.E Course in the near future.

Dr. R.Murugesan M.E., Ph.D., Vice Chancellor, Anna University of Technology, Madurai inaugurated the seminar. In his inaugural address he said that India is progressing in all the sectors namely Primary, Secondary and Tertiary and the onus lies with the youngsters who must shoulder this responsibility with the peer group to make our nation even more advanced by exploring all the possibilities. He conveyed the message to the youngsters to make'learning a life-long mission.' He also said that Indian Engineers are in popular demand in the developed nations too. Already many young Engineers have coined their name in abroad. He stressed upon the role of teachers to guide the young Engineers in the right direction. He released the Souvenir and the first copy of the Souvenir was handed over to Er. Anita Ramdass, I.T.S., Deputy General Manager (O), B.S.N.L., Madurai; who was the Guest of Honour for the function. In her key note address she said that Information and Communication technology has revolutionized the life of the people and one can connect to the world from anywhere at anytime. Towards the end, the guests were presented with mementos by the Chairman, Er.M.K.S Sreenivasan and Er.V.Sathappan,past Chairman, I.E.

After the Inaugural function, Technical Session I & II was held; headed by past Chairaman of I.E, Madurai Er.K.Chakrapany and Er.A.Durairaj. Prof.M.Palanikumar M.E.,Dean, and Dr.Suja Ravi Issac, Head of the Department,ECE were the Rapporteur. A total of 25 papers were presented in the seminar focusing upon various topics related to Quality Engineering, Automation, Advanced Manufacturing and Bio-Medical Engineering in Health Care.

The programme came to the end with the valedictory function conducted in the evening in which Er. B.T. Bangera, M.D, Hi-Tech Arai (Ltd),Madurai gave the valedictory address. He said that these kinds of seminar will help the scholars in this field to focus on all aspects of the applications and advancements in the areas of materials,manufacturing and management.The guests were honoured by Er.R.Nagalingam, Past Chairman, Tamilnadu State Centre. Er.V.Dhanaraj,Hon.Secretary I.E Madurai proposed the vote of thanks and congratulated Er.S.R. Vijayshrenivas Director, Er. M.S.R Rajsanthosh-Secretary and Administrative Officer Mr.S.Nagarajan for the success of the event.
