PATH TOWARDS....... RESEARCH IN............. MATHEMATICS
A two day National Seminar on Advancement of Mathematics and Its Applications was organised by the Department of Mathematics in the college auditorium on 19th and 20th November, 2010. There were 32 scholars from various Arts and Science and Engineering colleges who registered their interest in the participation of this National Level Seminar.The objective of this seminar is to pave way not only to create interest in starting research leading to get Ph.D among the teachers, but also to improve and develop their knowledge in Maths and to enhance their teaching and research skills.
The inaugural function was held on November 19, 2010. Dr.R.David Chandrakumar, Convenor, Prof. & Head, Department of Mathemetics welcomed the gathering. The inaugural address was delivered by the Chairman Er.M.K.S Sreenivasan. He said “A teacher rather than be a walking encyclopedia in a classroom, should be efficient to contribute to the advancement of the frontiers of knowledge. In view of knowledge explosion, it is imperative that teacher should stay on the frontiers of knowledge and one important way of doing this is to do research”. After honouring the guests,Dr.S.Kathirrvelu,Principal remarked that " The main purpose of higher education is to increase, diffuse and disseminate knowledge to serve the community".The Chief-Guest of the function was Dr.G.Arivaringnan, Prof. & Head,Department of Applied Mathematics, Madurai Kamaraj University. In his address he said “The Mathematicians interact, impress, inspire, initiate, and illustrate to make the young Mathematicians realize their goal”. Dr.K.Kannan,Professor & Dean,Sastra University gave a presentation on Image Processing while Dr.R.Srikanth,Associate Professor & Dean Sastra University gave his presentation on Number Theory.
On 20-11-10 Dr.A. Sunny Kuriakose,Professor and Principal,Cochin Universtiy discussed with the participants on the topic Fuzzy Logic. He gave many real life illustrations and connected it to Fuzzy Logic In the afternoon Dr.V.Rajkumar Dare,Professor & Head, Department of Maths, MCC,Chennai gave his presentation on the topic Automata Theory.
The valedictory function was held in the evening . Ms.M.Selvarani,Senior faculty of the Department of Mathematics welcomed the gathering. The Principal and the Dean, Prof.M.Palanikumar felicitated the guests. Dr.R.David Chandrakumar, Convenor, Prof. & Head, Department of Mathemetics summarised the event and said that research in Mathematics is not to make simple things complicated; but to make the appearing complicated things simple. The Principal thanked the Management for the motivation and support given to organise this seminar. He congratulated the Administrative Officer Prof. S.Nagarajan & Dr.R.David Chandrakumar, Convenor and his team for the success of the event. The participants were awarded certificate of merit for their participation. Ms. M.Regina Mary Senior faculty of Mathematics proposed the vote of thanks.
