“MY JOURNEY TO LEADERSHIP”-LDC

Centre for Women Studies, Lady Doak College, Madurai, in collaboration with AM Academy conducted a unique one day workshop for women “MY JOURNEY TO LEADERSHIP” on 19 Mar. 11’. The day exclusively focused on heaving out the unseen & unrecognized fire in a woman. Eminent, vibrant and influential personalities that include Mrs. Chitra Ganapathy, Mrs. Anantha Valli, Mrs. Pankagam, and the director of AM Academy, Mrs. Ezhilarasi spoke on various subjects which triggered women’s potential & spirit. Dr. Raja Govindasamy delivered the valedictory address & stressed upon SWOT analysis to mould women. Towards the end of the day, the workshop identified capable leaders among the participants & presented them with potential leader awards.

Dept. of English, participated in the above workshop; and Ms. RAMYA G was awarded with the Potential Leader Award.

SHORT FILM CONTEST - WON BY GURUPRASANA!!

Congratulations to Guruprasnna!!!

A wonderful news - VCE is proud to share that one of the Alumni, Guruprasanna of 2006-2010 Batch of Electronics and Communication Department,  has won second prize  out of 6 in short film contest conducted by Cognizant. It is an 8 minutes film about a trainee who loose his career and thereby his life too..... because of his wrong attitude and short temper- a lesson to all the trainees...This is his first venture and he also acted in this film.

PLACEMENT OFFICERS MEET AT AUT-MADURAI

A one day meeting for the Placement Officers of the colleges affiliated to AUT-Madurai was held at 10.00 a.m on 28-2-11 (Monday) at the premises of Anna University of Technology, Madurai. There were nearly 30 Placement Officers from various districts who participated in this programme. The objective of this meeting was to 'Discuss about the future activities of Career Guidance Cell (CGC) of AUT- Madurai'.The meeting was presided by the honourable Vice- Chancellor Dr. R. Murugesan and chaired by the Registrar Dr. E.B. Perumal Pillai. Director of CGC- AUT- Madurai, Dr. C. Swarnalatha, was the convenor of this programme. Dr. E.B Perumal Pillai welcomed the gathering and informed about the launch of AUTM APEX- web portal in the website shortly. He further said that this portal will enable the students to have an access to the top MNC's - aptitude questions, puzzles, Interview tips, sample Group Discussions...etc. After thatDr. R. Murugesan gave the presidential address and spoke about 'Bridging gap between Industry and University'. He emphasised on giving 'Training to the Trainers' which will in turn help the trainers to train the students in developing their communication and soft skills. After that Dr. C. Swarnalatha addressed the gathering and spoke about the 'Role of Placement Officers'.

After a short tea break Mr. S. Raaja Priythwin, Director, Auroshri HR Services Pvt. Ltd, Chennai gave his presentation on 'Motivating the Placement Officers' . In his presentation he said that training programme for the students must be conducted from the Ist year of their joining the college itself. The next session was taken by Prof. S.S Manian- a special invitee for the programme. The Placement Officers were divided into groups and were asked to give suggestions for 'Successful Strategies for the Placements of the students'. Few suggestions which were put forward by the groups are:
1.Training for the purpose of placement must be incorporated with the regular timetable from the First Year of their course study.
2.AUT-Madurai must create 'Talent Pool of Resource Persons' from different colleges to train the students in developing their communication skills and aptitude.
3.NAC Technical Test by the professional trainers can be given to the students for testing their 'company ready traits'.
4.The curriculum must be framed in such a way that it includes the corporate HR's expectations from the students.

The fourth session was handled by Mr. K. Raman, Advisor, CGC, AUT- Madurai. He collected the feed back of the recently held Job Fair organised by AUT-Madurai at Raja College Of Engineering and discussed about the future placement drives to be conducted by AUT-Madurai. The last session was taken by Ms. Sabeena, Territory Manager, HCL Learning Division, Madurai. She gave her presentation on 'Developing Employability Skills in Students'. She said that prime importance must be given to develop communication and soft skills among the students, as it determines their professional growth. She summarised her presentation with a famous quote of William James- 'Begin to be now, what you want to be hereafter'. Mr. V. Francis Densil Raj -Member, CGC, AUT-Madurai proposed a vote of thanks. The Department of Training and Placement thank the Management and Principal for the opportunity given to participate in this programme.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY WINNERS-2011

Yet another victory to the college!! Our I yr. students presented papers on Chemistry, English & Physics at SACS MAVMM College of Engineering on 28th Feb. 11'. PRIYANKA VASAN N (ECE) & SUBHASHNI R (CSE) won II Prize in Physics, and HARISH R & NAVEEN KUMAR S (MECH.) won III Prize in English. We also appreciate our other participants BHAGAVATHY M S (IT) & JANANI R (ECE) for their effort. We wish them many success in future too!!
