Two Day Training Programme on Power Plant Familiarization on 10-01-11 & 11-01-11

A two day Crash Training Programme on Power Plant Familiarization was conducted in our campus on 10-01-11 & 11-01-11 for the benefit of the 137 students of III year Mechanical Engineering & Electrical Engineering. Resource persons from National Power Training Institute(NPTI), Southern Region, under the Ministry of Power, Govt of India  1) Dy Director. Asst Prof. P. Muthusamy of NPTI & 2) Asst.Director. Asst Prof. S.Senthil Kumar covered a myriad of topics  to  make the students familiarise with the Power Plant activities. Our chairman has taken a lot of initiative to have this programme conducted here as he strongly feels that the strength and growth of a nation is valued by the volume of the power it produces and today's students must be educated on this aspect as tomorrow depends on the young engineers of today. Energy conservation by utilising the alternative resources like Sunlight, water, Wind, Waves and tides, must be taken care of, he opines. Keeping in view of the above aspect, this programme went on.
Both the professors presented this Training Programme in a nut shell covering the following topics:-
1) Introduction of the Indian Power Scenario.
2) Power Plant Layout & Power Evacuation/Switch Yard
3) Boiler & Auxiliary Systems of Thermal Power Plants
4) Features of Steam Turbine & Auxiliaries
5) Functioning of the Generators
6) Auxiliaries of the Thermal Power Plant.

This was followed by a discussion and clarification to the students were provided by the experts. The Principal Dr. S. Kathirrvelu, & Dean Prof. M. Palanikumar and AO Prof. S. Nagarajan provided required guidance and the vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. P. Sivachandran.
