INAUGURATION OF FOSS CLUB – SPOKEN TUTORIAL PROJECT IIT BOMBAY

FOSS club – Spoken Tutorial Project IIT Bombay was inaugurated at Vickram College of Engineering on 17/06/2016 at 09.30am. The program started with invocation. Dr. S.Nagarajan, Principal, Vickram College of Engineering delivered the welcome address.

Mr. Mohamed Kasim Khan, Spoken Tutorial project – Tamilnadu Co-ordinator, IIT Bombay inaugurated the club and delivered the inaugural address on the importance of open source software. He described about various projects through which education can be made more innovative and motivated the staff members to update themselves with recent technologies. He also discussed about reliability, stability, flexibility and accountability of using open source software. He also said that open source will over take the proprietary software over a period of time. National Mission of Education through ICT and MHRD are making it possible to popularize open source software in India. The main aim of FOSS is to popularize open source software among students. Students who have experience in open source software can easily get placed in private and public sectors like ISRO, DRDO in future.

Further more IIT Bombay has recognized Vickram College of Engineering as resource center in Sivagangai district. It has also recognized Vickram College of Engineering as resource center for Spoken Tutorial from 2014. So far 39 courses have been conducted under this and about 1024 students and staff were trained in these courses. Mr.P.Pavunraj, Research Center Co-Ordinator, Vickram College of Engineering, delivered the vote of thanks.
