White water rafting
Is it a thrilling leisure activity or a dangerous sport? It is probably a combination of the two. Rafting or white water rafting is a challenging recreational outdoor activity using an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other bodies of water. This is usually done on white water or different degrees of rough water, in order to thrill and excite the raft passengers.
Since it began in the 1970 it has certainly become a lot safer with legislated safety measures, better qualified operators and much improved equipment. In the past, rivers have been known to swallowed up whole expeditions. Nowadays the overall risk, when using experienced operators, is considered as low. It is also now a competitive sport with international and world championship events. This competitive element of rafting began in the mid 90's.
One of the best white water rafting places all around the world is Zambezi River in the Victoria Falls that has brute and splashing waves, making rafting experience wild and aggressive. The long rapid, obstinate gradients and highly build-up pressure is sure to send a chill down the spine.
A famous traveler once described adventure as, “pursuit of life“. This thirst for adventure is no more the feed meant for few daring spirits.
