'Muthu pattalam 2010'
A cultural feast 'Muthu Pattalam 2010' was organised by the Teacher Training College for the colleges of Arts,Science and Educational Colleges around the city. This event was held on 17th and 18th September,2010. Nearly 130 students from 20 different colleges participated in this cultural bonanza. This programme was organised with the theme to 'Build relationship between culture and development and deepened it in consturctive and practical ways'. The programme commenced with the inaugural function presided by the Chairman. Ms.T.Premalatha,Principal Teacher Training College welcomed the gathering.In the keynote address the Chairman said that,this kind of cultural programme helps the student-teacher community to build up their self confidence and improve their presentation skill. He further said that "Culture is the whole complex of distinctive spiritual,material,intellectual and emotional features that characterizes a society or a group". He appreciated the efforts taken by the staff and students for organising the function. On the first day Speech and Poetry competitions were held.In the speech competition Mr.P.Baskaran of Alagappa Arts and Science College,M.Sankareswari of Thiagarajar Arts and Science College and S.Banazir Banu of Sivakasi Nadar Pioneer Meenakshi Women's College bagged First,Second and Third prize respectively.In the Poetry Competition Mr.U.Muthu Vijayan of Thiagarajar Arts and Science College,Madurai bagged First,S.Viji of Alagappa Arts and Science College bagged Second and K.Antony of Preethi College of Education bagged third prize.
On the second day three competitions were held namely: Mime,Drawing and Quiz. AKR College of Education for women were the proud winners of the Mime competition,whereas Govt.Arts and Science College,Paramakudi and Thiagarajar Arts and Science College,Madurai stood Second and Third respectively.In the Drawing Competition Rathi Prabha of Govt.Arts and Science College,Sivagangai secured First position,M.Gayathri of Sivakasi Nadar Pioneer Meenakshi Women's College secured Second and C.Veluchamy of Algappa Arts and Science College secured third position.Quiz Competition was held under the able guidance of Mr.R.Nedumaran-Retd.Professor and Head of the Dept. of English,American College.The result of the tough battle of minds-' Quiz Competition' was announced in the afternoon in which Govt.Arts and Science College Paramakudi came victorious.Thiagarajar Arts and Science College bagged Second and CSI College of Education Pasumalai bagged third prize respectively.
In the evening valedictory function was held.The Chairman presided over the function. Other distinguished guests present in the function were the Principal-Dr.S.Kathirrvelu,Dean-Mr. M.Palanikumar,Administrative Officer Mr.S,Nagarajan and Ms.Rengabai-Principal, Polytechnic College. Cash prize of Rs.500,Rs.300 and Rs.200 were given alongwith medals and certificates to the winners of first,second and third prize. Certificate of participation was given to the other participants for further encouragement.
