4th Vickram Chess Championship for Schools-2013

         Our College organized 'Vickram Chess Championshiop for Schools-2013' at the college premises on 7th July, 2013. In this District Level Inter School Chess Championship, 236 students from 35 schools participated for the prestigious Vickram Chess Championship for Schools- Founders Trophy-2013. Chairman of Vickram Schools and Colleges, Er. M.K.S Sreenivasan, welcomed all and gave the presidential address to the gathering. He said that Vickram Schools and Colleges has been organising a series of events for various schools and colleges to emphasise on the fact that “all round development of the students is the order of the day”. In his key note address, Dr. V.Pugalagiri, Chairman and Director, Vadamalayan Hospital, Madurai, added that today the student community had to excel not only in education, but also in all the other fields such as sports and cultural activities to become successful in life. He further added that 'Sports and Studies are like two eyes of human beings and one has to give equal importance to both to face this competitive world'.

     Er. M.K.S Sreenivasan, awarded the prizes in which Selvan. Sasvanth of Velammal School bagged first prize in Under 11 category. In the category of Under 14, Selvan. J. Akashraj of St. Michael Hr. Sec. School, bagged first prize, whereas Selvi. V. Hemalakshmi of C.E.O.A Matriculation School secured first position in the above 17 years category. A certificate, trophy and cash prize of Rs. 1000, Rs. 750 and Rs. 500 was given to the winners of the first, second and third prize respectively. All the participants were issued with the participation certificates. Mr. R. Ilangovan, Chairman, Vishaal Promoters encouraged the participants. The programme came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. B.T. Sethuraman, Secretary, Madurai District chess Association. The involvement of the Physical Education Department made this event a successful one.
