The following events were conducted for the students and around 60 students from various colleges participated in the programme.
We the Department of Mechanical Engineering organised a 2-day workshop on RECENT TRENDS IN NON DESTRUCTIVE TECHNIQUES on 9th and 10th September 2016. The program began with invocation. Dr. Nagarajan, the Principal, Vickram College of Engineering inaugurated the workshop with a speech on the need of skill enhancement. S.Yuvaraj, final year student welcomed the gathering. Mr.M.Sundarraj, ASNT LEVEL III, CEO, NDT Tech and Service and Mr.J.Jeya Renald Reegam, ASNT LEVEL III, Quality Manager, NDT Tech and Service were the resource persons.
Mr.M.Sundarraj, ASNT LEVEL III, CEO, NDT Tech and Service gave a detailed lecture on Failure Analysis and the Scope of NDT. He also briefed about various employment opportunities in oil, power and mining industry which uses NDT inspection, as it is the best tool for identifying flaws, cracks and defects in a effective way. He futher explained that Non-destructive Testing (NDT) can contribute to a safe and reliable operation of installations and machines. It is an essential part of quality control during the fabrication process, and is applied during periodic in-service inspections for early detection of flaws, which could lead to failure of a component if undetected. And in the afternoon session Mr.J.Jeya Renald Reegam, ASNT LEVEL III, Quality Manager, NDT Tech and Service submitted his address on the techniques and applications of NDT. He familiarised the participants with various NDT tools. He also explained the various NDT methods such as Liquid penetrant and Magnetic particle by demonstration.
The second day program started with the technical session. Hands on training was provided by the experts on various NDT techniques, like ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, Dye penetrant test, Radiographic testing and film interpretation, visual testing and ultrasonic thickness measurement. And this workshop covered all aspects of Non Destructive Techniques and enhanced the technical skills of the participants through interactive sessions and training. E.Gopi, Final year student of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vickram College of Engineering, delivered the vote of thanks. The program ended with the national anthem.
