Dr. S. SELVAM,Director,Centre for University - Industry Collaboration delivered lecture on how to prepare project proposal on 10th and 11th March 2012 for about 50 faculty members of various departments. He motivated the faculty members to come up with new ideas which would help the society. He also discussed about the areas where engineering ideas are essential.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering conducted the National level Technical Symposium, Intelectium – 2012 on the 15th March, 2012, Thursday. About 44 participants from various colleges in Tamilnadu participated in the program. Events such as Poster Presentation, Technical Quiz, Debugging, Web designing and Project Display were conducted during the program. Cheif guest Mr.V. Ramprakash, CEO, Industrial Electronics Corporation, Sipcot, K.Pudur, Madurai inaugrated the Symposium and Dr.K.P.ManiAnand,Asst.Prof., Ramanujam Computing Center , ANNA University, Chennai was the Chairperson for the poster presentation event.
The program was started with the inaugural function in which the chief guest addressed the gathering. The poster presentation, an offstage event had nine posters presented by 18 participants from various colleges such as Algappa College of Tech, ULTRA College of Engineering, Madurai Institute of Engineering and Technology, RVS College of Engineering, KLN College of Engineering, Velammal College of Engineering and Technology, Bharath Nikethan College of Engineering, Pandian Saraswathi Yadav Engineering College and Sethu Institute of Technology. The presentations were judged based upon the originality of the paper, presentation skills and the skills of answering the queries. The teams from Algappa College of Tech and KLN College of Engineering bagged the first and the second places respectively. Earlier, the department received 30 papers from various colleges, out of which 14 papers were selected for presentation. The papers were selected based on the originality and the creativity.
Simultaneously, the prelims of the Technical Quiz took place in which 16 teams from various colleges attended the quiz prelims out of which 5 teams were selected for the final round. The final round was an onstage event. The team from Velammal College of Engineering and Technology and the team from Raja College of Engineering and Technology, bagged the I and II place respectively.
33 students from different colleges attended the Debugging prelims out of which 11 participants were selected for the final round. The Final Debugging Contest took place in the CSE lab. The first place was bagged by Algappa College of Tech and the second place won by Velammal College of Engineering and Technology.
The last off stage event was the Web Designing contest. 24 participants took part in the contest. The presentations were based upon different domains. The first place was bagged by Raja College of Engineering and Technology and the second place was bagged by RVS college of Engineering and Technology.
The Success of the Symposium was greatly supported by the students.
Guest lecture on "Orientation on software testing" was presented by Mr.Mohamed Bakruddin, an eminent software professional with more than 13 year of experience, on 18-02-2012. He discussed various software testing process in IT industry. He emphasised on 'Why Software testing as a profession is important '. He also shared how the students should equip themself to become a software tester. He motivated the students on their career development.
