7 th Alumni meet on 3 rd March 2013 at Chennai -A Brief report

An Alumni Meet was organized on 03 rd March 2013 (Sunday) at Hotel Quality Sabri Inn, T.Nagar,Chennai. The Meet was attended by 38 alumni ranging across various batches that graduated from the year 2001 to 2012.Our Faculty members as well as Alumni of our college Mr. K.Muthukumuran, Ms. V.Vimala Priyadharshini, Mr. M.Thigarajan, Mr.V.Balakrishnan and Ms.Adline Vidhya jointly organized the alumni meet.

The Placement Officer Ms.V.Vimala Priyadharshini welcomed the participants and she stressed the Role and Importance of Alumni in the development of the college to achieve greater heights. Sweet and sour memories narrated on a lighter note became the prime engagement of the event. The Alumni shared their reminisces of the past in the college and their professional experiences in the organisation where they are employed. It was a great pleasure to know about their accomplishments in professional lives.

The primary objective of this meet was to provide a platform to the alumni and the graduating students to seek and render their support and cooperation to each other and develop a sense of understanding, particularly at the time of crisis. They also stressed on the need to give special training on enhancing technical skills of the students. They also emphasised the need for English to be compulsory within the campus.

They suggested that more of this kind of training programmes will enhance the employability skills of the students. They expressed their gratitude and thankfulness to the teachers who guided and moulded them to attain their goal. They also attached great importance to the practice of sending students for Inplant training, industrial visit, Internship and power plant familiarisation programmes followed at the college.

The well equipped labs and volumes of books in the library helped the students to master their subjects with the help of the teachers. They also said that the college has established a reputation in the south Tamilnadu for organizing placement drives frequently. The alumni also appreciated the efforts taken by the college in inviting the alumni placed in the leading companies for the continuous interactions with the graduating students.

After the lunch, discussion on the future developments ensued and alumni came up with many suggestions. A team of faculty members under the guidance of Mr.K. Muthukumuran collected the feed back from the alumni regarding the organizational aspects of the Meet and their suggestions for improvement in professional training at the college.

Everyone departed with the resolve to visit again and spread the message amongst all who could not visit this time.The Alumni Meet came to a close, with the vote of thanks proposed by the Ms.J.Adline Vidhya.

6th Alumni Meet at Chennai - A Report

It was an emotional trip down the memory lane for the former students of the College , when they gathered at the Benzz Park Tulip Hotel, Chennai on 29th January, 2012 for their Alumni Meet. There were 16 alumni who participated in this meet from various batches.

In the discussion, the alumni expressed their views that the training programmes organized during their course of study in the college enabled them to get placed in the top notch companies. The alumni represented various companies like TCS, Wipro, CTS, Amazon Development Centre, Hexaware Technologies... so on and so forth. It was a proud moment to know that the alumni were not only placed in leading companies, but also held key positions in these companies.

They suggested that more of this kind of training programmes will enhance the employability skills of the students. They expressed their gratitude and thankfulness to the teachers who guided and moulded them to attain their goal. They also attached great importance to the practice of sending students for inplant training, industrial visit, internship and power plant familiarisation programmes followed at the college.

They also held the view that this kind of  experience helped them to get practical exposure to the prevailing company traits. They praised the college administration for acquiring the membership of ICTACT, as it helped them to do the final year project, resulting in getting jobs in core companies. The alumni held the view that the students of  the college outsmart other students because of the importance given to the practical lab sessions during their course of study.

The alumni also appreciated the efforts taken by the college in inviting the alumni placed in the leading companies for the continous interactions with the graduating students.

Towards the end, the alumni suggested that certification course in technical domain can be introduced to the students in their 1st year  of study, which will give an added advantage to the students while appearing for any campus drive. They also offered their services in the growth of the college. A team of faculty members under the guidance of Administrative Officer, Prof. S. Nagarajan collected the feed back from the alumni regarding the organizational aspects of the Meet and their suggestions for improvement in professional training. The Alumni Meet closed at a very emotional note. However, everyone appreciated the efforts taken by the college in organizing the Meet .

Alumni Meet Bengaluru November 2011 - a brief report

An Alumni Meet was organized on 20th November, 2011 at hotel Shilton Royale, Koramangala, Bangalore. The Meet was attended by 11 alumni ranging across various batches that graduated from the year 2001 to 2011. Sweet and sour memories narrated on a lighter note became the prime engagement of the event. The Alumni shared their reminisces of the past in the college and their professional experiences in the organisation where they are employed. It was a great pleasure to know about their accomplishments in professional lives. The meet was graced by the Director, Mr. SR.Vijay Shrenivas and the Joint Secretary Mr. M.S Vikram. The function was made special with the presence of Mr. Venkat- special invitee.


After the lunch, discussion on the future developments ensued and alumni came up with many suggestions. They also stressed on the need to give special training on enhancing technical skills of the students. They also emphasised the need for english to be compulsary within the campus. They also offered their services in the growth of various Departments in the college. The Director, in his interaction stressed upon the 'role of mentorship' in today's education. Mr. Vikram said “Need and necessity of career growth can be best instilled in the students by their Alumni.” Mr. Venkat held the view that Alumni can be insturmental in playing the role of 'Reverse Engineering- Corporate to Campus' for bridging the gap between industry and academia.


A feed back was also collected from the alumni regarding the organizational aspects of the Meet and their suggestions for improvement in professional training at the college. Everyone departed with the resolve to visit again and spread the message amongst all who could not visit this time.

Alumni Meet April 2011

             Alumni Meet was held at the college conference hall in the afternoon of 30th April 2011. There were as many as 156 alumni who had assembled in the conference hall. They belonged to six batches of old students who had passed out 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010. The Principal Dr. S. kathirrvelu presided over the function.

               The Principal, Dr. S. Kathirrvelu made the keynote address. In his speech, he insisted that the alumni should have a sense of responsibility towards its alma mater. They have an obligation to influence the junior students of the college, through their interactions with them through the seminars and symposia being conducted in each of the departments.The Principal advised the alumni to appear for competitive examination in order to win covetable positions in government organizations, like BHEL, etc. He further said that in order to bridge the gap between Industry and Institution, the college has been organising 12 industrial visit to the students apart from inplant training. He added that in the next academic year, the college has also got the proposal to tie up with TCS Academic Intensive Programme and Infosys Campus Connect Programme. He stressed upon developing entrepreneurial skill and said “ Don't be a job seeker, be a job provider.”

             The alumni shared their reminisces of the past in the college, the phenomenal growth of the institution and their professional experiences in the organizations where they are employed. They recollected the contributions of the colleges into their lives in terms of knowledge and skills which they had attained in the institution, during their period of study. Most particularly, they recalled the importance that was given to discipline and quality of education in the College and desired that the same tradition and values to continue over the years.

There was election of new office bearers. Mr. Muthukumaran, B.E(ECE), of 2002-2006 was unanimously elected as the Secretary of the Alumni Association. Ms. Shanmugapriya of B.Tech (IT), 2006-2010 was elected as the Joint Secretary.
The Alumni Meet came to a close, with the vote of thanks proposed by the Administrative Officer Mr. S. Nagarajan with the information of the next Alumni meet proposed to be held at Bangalore in the month of December.

Alumni Meet Chennai - December 2010

The 3rd Alumni Meet was organised at Ramada Raj Park, Alwarpet, Chennai in the forenoon of 19th December, 2010. Around 17 alumni from  the batch of 2005 to 2009  gathered for the meet. The Administrative Officer Prof. S. Nagarajan welcomed the participants and said, "This function is the Reunion between you and your former classmates". Principal Dr. S. Kathirrvelu presided over the function.

The primary objective of this meet was to provide a platform to the alumni and the graduating students to seek and render their support and cooperation to each other and develop a sense of understanding, particularly at the time of crisis. Principal Dr. S. Kathirrvelu made the keynote address and said that the purpose of the Alumni Meet is to facilitate the Alumnus to share their expertise and experience and brainstorm on the prospective avenues. He further added that it is the responsibility of the alumni to guide their juniors in the right path; which can be done by interacting with their juniors frequently through seminars. The Principal advised the alumni to appear for competitive examination and explore the possibilities in government organizations, like BHEL, IES and ICS etc.

After that, the discussion was open to the  alumni who shared not only their reminisces of the past in the college but also the contemporary trends and traits of the company. They recollected their old memories associated with the college and the contributions of the college which changed their lives.  Most particularly, they recalled the importance that was given to discipline and the quality of education in Vickram College of Engineering, and desired that the same tradition and values to continue over the years, so that the college could shine out prominently among the colleges in South India for its excellence.

The Alumni Meet came to a close, with the vote of thanks proposed by the Dean of the college Prof.M.Palanikumar. In his speech he thanked the Management for giving new dimension to this event.

II Alumni Meet held at 11.00 a.m., on 24th April 2010

There was an Alumni Meet held in our campus in the forenoon of 24th April 2010. There were as many as 32 alumni who had assembled in the conference hall. They belonged to five batches of old students who had passed out 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, & 2009. Our Administrative Officer Prof. S. Nagarajan welcomed the participants. Our Principal Dr. S. Kathirrvelu presided over the function.

 

Our Principal Dr. S. Kathirrvelu made the keynote address. In his speech, he insisted that the alumni should have a sense of responsibility towards its alma mater. One, they should feel proud of the institution. Two, they have an obligation to influence the junior students of the college, through their interactions with them through the seminars and symposia being conducted in each of the departments. Third, they should continue to enhance their lives through reading all good books. Fourth, the Principal advised the alumni to appear for competitive examination in order to win covetable positions in government organizations, like BHEL, etc. Fifth, he insisted upon smart work in order to achieve excellence in their work. By SMART, he meant that alumni must have good goals in life, and continue to strive for them, by being Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic in the realization of their Targets.

 

Then the alumni came to the dais, and shared their reminiscences of the past in the college, the phenomenal growth of the institution, and their professional experiences in the organizations where they are employed. They recollected the contributions of the colleges into their lives in terms of knowledge and skills which they had attained in the institution, during their period of study. Most particularly, they recalled the importance that was given to discipline and quality of education in Vickram College of Engineering, and desired that the same tradition and values to continue over the years, so that the college could shine out prominently among the colleges in South India for its excellence.

 

Sri R. Chandrasekaran responded to students' doubts and made clarifications, and Dr. A. Shanmugakani explained a few tips to pick up English – mainly through listening to BBC & NDTV Telecasts.

 

There was election of new office bearers. Ms. S. Saravana Priya, B.Tech.(IT) of 2005-2009 was unanimously elected as the Secretary of the Alumni Association for the period 2010-2011. Sri J. Senthilkumar, B.E(EEE), of 2005-2009 Batch was elected as the Joint Secretary, while Sri P. Vishnu Prabhu, B.Tech IT of 2005-2009 batch got elected as IT Convener. Besides these three positions, the following alumni got elected, as Project Conveners: 1) Sri R. Prathap, B.E.(EEE), & 2) Sri Muthukumar, B.E.(ECE).

 

The Alumni Meet came to a close, with the vote of thanks proposed by Prof. V. Jeyapaul Sathiasaran.
