Our Mechanical Engineering students  were participated in one day Skill Development Programme on Thermal Power Plant Equipments on 6th February 2017. Mr.P.Muthusamy, Deputy Director, Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Ltd was the resource person. On the first session he spoke at length about the national power training institutes all over the nation and its activities and its contribution to the nation. Then he continued about Geographical information system and Boiler systems. He gave a very brief account about the air heaters which is used to remove the moisture in coal and also about the condensers, boilers and turbines used in the burning process. He also spoke on the usage of chimney and the steam generation in the boiler with a concise description about sensible and latent heat. He described about the heat transfer zones, heat transfer modes and heat exchanges and briefed about the types of fuels used, firing rate and the allowable metals.

In the afternoon session he explained about circulation, putting more emphasis on natural circulation, forced circulation and assisted circulation. And he continued with the economisers, types of economisers and its design. Finally he gave a brief description about STUB welding and concluded his session explaining the boiler drum tapping. The sessions were lively and the he answered all the queries from the students. He also gave an idea about the various courses provided by National Power Training Institutes and also about the various support extended by the government towards these courses. Around 250 Mechanical Engineering students were benefited.
