The floating car park

Can’t find a parking spot? Try looking in Tokyo. Space is at such a premium that they’ve created a floating parking lot. The creation, called Umihotaru(translation: marine firefly) is actually a tourist attraction. Umihotaru also connects to the world’s longest underwater tunnel which connects Kawasaki and Kisarazu. This strange-looking beast in Tokyo is an artificial island and tourist attraction. Cars can either drive over the 4.4km bridge to the island and park in order to admire the view or drive straight through to the tunnel entrance where they will be taken under the water for 9.5km until they reach Kawasaki. The tunnel is apparently the longest underwater road tunnel in the world. The unique thing about this bridge-and-tunnel combination is that a large rest area lies on top of an artificial tunnel constructed at the entrance of this tunnel.
