7th VICKRAM FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SCHOOLS-2011
7th Vickram Football Championship for schools at district level was held at the College football ground between 18th and 19th January, 2011. 16 schools participated from various districts of Tamilnadu. The inaugural function was held on 18th January, 2011 presided by the Chairman, Mr. M.K.S Sreenivasan. The Chief-Guest of the function was Mr. Ramesh- a successful industrialist from Sri-Lanka. The Chairman welcomed the gathering and encouraged the players to play the game with sportsman spirit and stressed upon the need to involve oneself in sports activities for keeping oneself physically, mentally and socially fit. After the conventional kick-Start of the ball by the Chief-Guest and the Chairman, the tournament started with the full swing.
Valedictory Function was held on 19th January, 2011. Mr. M. Raja Rathinam, President, District Congress Committee, Sivagangai was the Chief-Guest for the function. The Principal , Dr. S. Kathirrvelu welcomed the gathering. The presidential address was given by the Chairman. In his speech, he appreciated the efforts taken by the Physical Education Department for conducting the event successfully. The Chief-Guest Mr. M. Raja Rathinam congratulated the players and encouraged them to be “Jack of all trades.” Final match was played between Subaiah Ambalam Matric School, Karaikudi and Savithabai Matric School, Madurai.
VICKRAM FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SCHOOLS-2011 was won by Subaiah Ambalam Matric & HSS karaikudi which was trained by the former Indian Football Player Mr.Rajamanikam. The Chief-Guest Mr. M. Raja Rathinam awarded the rolling trophy, Cash prize of Rs.2500, merit certificate and medals to the winning team. Runners-up trophy, cash prize of Rs.1500, merit certificate and medals were given to Savithabai Matric School, Madurai by the Chairman. Mr. M.S Vickram, Joint Secretary of the college awarded Cash prize of Rs. 1000, merit certeficate and medals to Keren Matric and Higher Secondary School, Madurai for securing third place in the tournament. A cash prize of Rs.1000 was given to the Player of the Tournament which was bagged by M.Benjamin of Keren Matric & HSS, Madurai. The programme came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by the Dean, Prof. M. Palanikumar.
