12th Sports & College Day

The 12th Sports Day & College Day was celebrated in grand way on9th April 2013.  A lot of intra-mural events took place in the forenoon, and the best performers were identified and greeted.  In the evening, the Annual Day Function commenced at 4.30 p.m.  And the Chief Guest was His Excellancy Dr. K. Rosaiah, the Governor of Tamilnadu.  Our Chairman Sri M.K.Srinivasan welcomed the audience – more particularly the Governor of Tamilnadu and all the district officials and dignitaries, who had assembled for the function.  Our Principal Dr. S. Kathirrvelu presented the annual report, in which he highlighted the achievements of the college in the academic year 2012-2013.  He made mention of our progress in our academics and placements in the last one year.  The winners in sports and games were given shields and certificates of appreciation by the Governor.  Likewise, the students who excelled in their studies were given prizes.  There was a special Guest of Honour – Sri C. Narasiman, the Ex-MP, who reminded the students as the shapers and moulders of the future destiny of India.  He commended the college authorities for spreading the benefits of technical education in and around Sivagangai & Madurai Districts.  He wished that Vickram College should march ahead and become the premier institution – an emblem of Victory in all branches of engineering studies.

 

            Then the Chief Guest His Excellancy Dr. K. Rosaiah observed that Annual Day is a Day of Rejoicing, as all the achievements in the course of one year are being cherished – both in academics and sports events.  Engineering education as imparted in Vickram College of Engineering should make the students to move ahead making innovations and to face challenges with the benefits of new technologies which have come into prominence.  Engineering institution has a unique role to play, which is to create engineers and technocrats and to make India a land of prosperity and development.  Dr. K. Rosaiah recalled the meaning of education as frequently mentioned by Mahatma Gandhiji, which is to shape the minds and hearts of people towards a healthy and peaceful living.  Then he quoted the concept of education as pointed out by Swami Vivekananda, which is to create awakening in the hearts of people.  Education should bring about changes and make man an admirable being in the world of creation.  Education should bring about self-development, self-confidence, and self-achievement, in the lives of people.  Education should guide man and enable him think high and achieve high.  Finally, Dr. K. Rosaiah quoted Tagore and said that education makes life rich and valuable, because of the value system it creates in the minds of people.  It is values and ethics, which makes India proud of herself.

 

            The function ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Sri M.S. Vikram, the Joint Secretary of our College.
