PROFILE:
Mr. S Sankaran graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, (Now NIT) Tiruchirapalli. He took a special interest in Welding Technology right from his student days. and started his career in the Welding Technology Department of BHEL Tiruchirapalli.
He was trained in advanced welding methods for manufacture of high pressure boilers in USA. He played active role in implementing latest welding processes for higher capacity boilers and development of indigenous welding consumables.
When the Welding Research Institute was started at Tiruchirapalli, he was involved in establishing the School of Welding at WRI and organising its Educational and Training programs.
He joined Larsen & Toubro Limited as Head of Welding Engineering Department of Heavy Engineering Division at Powai, Mumbai. He handled fabrication of several critical equipments for Nuclear, Aerospace, Ferilizer, Refinery, Petro-chemical and Defense projects for both domestic and overseas customers.
He is a life member of the Indian Welding Society from its inception and First Chairman of IWS - Western Zone. He organized the first meeting of the Asian Welding Federation (AWF) in India at Lonavla, Mumbai in October 2005. He is current President of Indian Welding Society.
He retired from active service in August 2007 and is settled in Bangalore.
