Report on Guest Lecture by Prof.Kevin Paulson,University of Hull,UK
On 19th February 2015, Department of ECE,EEE and Mechanical students had the privilege of having yet another interactive session with Prof.Kevin Paulson, Department of Engineering, University of Hull, UK. Prof Kevin spoke on “Recent Issues in Telecommunication and the effect of climate change on Microwaves”. Dr.S.Nagarajan, Principal presided over the function,Ms.S.Muthumala AP/ECE welcomed the gathering and introduced the speaker of the day.
The lecture commenced with familiarisation of the University of Hull, its location and its importance. Dr.Kevin then elaborated the basics of analog communication systems. He briefly explained the Cognitive Radio system with an interesting analogy of Indian traffic system. He shared his rich experience on channel capacity, signal to noise ratio, bandwidth and their constraints. He exhaustively dwelled on the fade margin requirement of different types of Microwave systems. He familiarised the students with the adverse effect of climatic changes on the fade margin. He also inspired the audience with his scholarly work on RFID.
Around 200 students attended the lecture and Mr.M.S.Vikram , Joint Secretary presented a Memento to the guest speaker and Mr.Kumarasamy,AP/EEE proposed vote of thanks.
