The following faculties of our department has participated in National Conference on Advanced Mathematical Analysis and Applications at K.S.Rangasamy College of Arts & Science, Tiruchengode on 12 & 13, August 2011 and presented their Research Paper.

An Inter Department Competition on Mathematics was conducted for II B.E./B.Tech. students of VCE on 22.08.2011. The list of the students who have won the prizes are given below.
A Guest Lecture programme was organised in the conference hall on 26-7-11, for the Final Year students of CSE, IT and ECE. The Resource Person was Mr. V. Balakumar , Junior Telecom Officer, BSNL, Madurai . He gave a presentation on 'Mobile Communication and Networks'. The programme commenced with the welcome address by the Principal of the college Dr. S.Kathirrvelu. The resource person started the session with a brief note on communication and explained about Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM). He gave a detailed description about the features of analog and digital communications, mobile switching centre and transfer of signals between two stations. The second half of the session was on General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). He briefed about the 2G and 3G communications and said that 3G Communication has higher band width in comparison to 2G and other features like video calling, gaming and chatting, add to its popularity. Illustration of 4G and the research on 5G communications was of great interest to the students. He concluded the session with exploring the possibilities of research in the field of mobile communication. This interactive session was an eye opener for 180 students. Prof. N. Mahalakshmi of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering proposed a vote of thanks.
It is proposed to conduct the INTERNAL EXAM -I for II year Mechanical from 06-08-11 to 12-08-11. The Faculty Members are requested to hand over the question paper to the exam in charge Mr.KAPIL DEV on or before 01-08-11 (MONDAY). They are also requested to conduct the Internal exam I as per the following schedule and hand over the mark statements with result analysis and answer key with in three days from the date of conduct of the exam, to the exam in charge.
A two Day Faculty Development Programme on Meta-Heuristics & Its Applications, was conducted in the college, on 27th & 28th May 2011. This was a joint venture organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering & the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The programme was inaugurated in the morning on 27th May 2011. Director Mr.VijayShrenivas, Joint Secretary Mr. Vikram, & Principal Dr. S. Kathirrvelu, graced the function. Administrative Officer Prof. S. Nagarajan, welcomed the participants of the FDP. The participants were 20 teaching faculty members drawn from various polytechnic & engineering colleges, such as Velammal College of Engineering, Sethu Institute of Technology, Sacs MAVMM Engineering College, Raja College of Engineering, Fatima Michael Engineering College, Anna University of Technology, Tirunelveli, & KLN College of Engineering.
On 27th May 2011, there were 4 sessions. In the I session, Dr. N. Jawahar, Professor & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Madurai, explained all aspects of Heuristics & Meta-Heuristics. The II session was handled by Sri P. Subramanian, from IIT, Chennai, and his presentation was on Simulated Annealing & its real-time applications. In the III & IV sessions, Dr. K. Rameshkumar, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amirta Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, explained the concept of Particle Swarm Optimization – popularly identified as PSO. He highlighted the realtime application of PSO, with the help of MAT Lab.
On 28th May 2011, the FDP continued with focus on recent trends in the new technology of Meta-Heuristics. In the V session, Dr. B.S. Girish, Assistant Professor, Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, explained the concept of Ant Colony Optimization – popularly known as ACO. He highlighted the scope for research in this domain and advised the staff to explore in this new area of technology. The next three sessions were handled by Sri P. Subramanian, from IIT, Chennai. He explained the basic ideas of Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing, and showed the applications of these new concepts in the current scenario of technological achievements.
Finally, the Faculty Development Programme came to a close, with the vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Sivakumar, Department of Mechanical Enginneering.
