DRDO Sponsored Workshop on Wavelet & Sparse Signal Representation - Research Focus - 28th & 29th September 2012.

Course Goal :

The wavelet methods provide avenues for proper understanding of real world problems. The fundamental idea behind wavelets is to analyze a given function or signal/image locally and not by frequency alone (as in standard Fourier analysis). Since wavelets are local in space they tend to yield an economical representation of a large number of functions and operators hence are useful in such applications as compression routines, detecting features in images or signals and removing noise from time series. Mathematical studies are often aimed to analyze and visualize real world problems. This workshop will explore new directions in the fields of signal / image processing and wavelet analysis. The workshops on wavelets will be  tutorial flavor and practically hands on experience will be addressed to participants who are not necessarily wavelet experts. It will also provide a timely update on the most recent developments in this area. As a result, we expect the research work to be later molded in a more polished form.  The field of Wavelet in Signal and Image Processing is expanding rapidly with ever-new developments and applications.  The applications of Wavelets in Signal processing and image processing encompass the fields of Communication, Industrial automation, Multimedia, and medical imaging etc. Active research is being conducted in various R & D organizations and academic institutes. Hence it has become important for the educators, practicing engineers and the students, to continuously update their knowledge and skills in wavelets and its applications. We will bring together scientists and engineers for an interdisciplinary exchange of research and problems in new areas of time - scale analysis. This workshop is mainly focusing on the specialized topics of wavelets and its practical applications. It will help participants to update their knowledge and widen their horizon.
