What is engineering?

Can we go back to dens and treetops where our ancestors lived leaving the comfortable modern world? Imagine life without electricity, transport facilities or even the Internet. We have to thank our scientists and engineers for the comforts of life. They engineer feasible solutions to the problems that hamper our comforts. When you watch a movie, play the latest video game, travel in an airplane, drive across a bridge, surf the Internet or use the latest handset gizmos, you see the magnificent display of technology, the one which has changed our life for good. Engineering is creativity and engineers are creators.

Engineers may be designers, planners, managers, analysts, researchers, consultants, sales specialists, and more. Engineering graduates find they have many career possibilities open to them.

Do you enjoy solving problems? Do you like science and mathematics? Is the challenge of applying your knowledge to real-life situations an exciting one? If so, a career in engineering may be right for you.

Is Engineering for you?

Where would you like to be in 10 years? Designing spacecraft to explore the Milky Way? Building environmentally safe systems to power cities? Saving lives through new laser applications? Choose a career in engineering and help make these great things happen!

Engineers are problem solvers, people who search for quicker, better, less expensive ways to use the forces and materials of nature to meet tough challenges. Throughout the ages, from the building of the Egyptian pyramids to the landing on the moon, engineers have been the shapers of progress.

Engineering offers a rewarding and lucrative career?one in which you can use your mind to find creative solutions to the challenges facing our society. As you plan your future, think of helping to shape the 21st century-consider choosing a career in engineering!

Which Course should I take up?

All courses are equally good. No specialization (branch of study) has a continuous demand. The demand for a particular specialization fluctuates as the markets fluctuate. For two years computer engineers are in demand then for the next two years electronics engineers are in demand. Then civil engineers are in demand. By the time you complete your engineering, it will be four years from now. No source can clearly predict that future demand.

The best thing to do is to select a branch of study that you like the most. Any skill learned properly will not let you down. If you are interested in computers then select computer engineering or information technology and so on based upon your interest. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical are the fundamental branches of engineering, where the curriculum has evolved over many years. Electronics and Computers are relatively newer branches of study. And all the fields of engineering keep growing. Read Academics for a brief overview of all the available specializations.
