About the Workshop

Steel - The continuing development in the quality of steel fabrication and construction techniques and manufacturing processes leading to greater availability is responsible for building systems that have greatly affected our lives and we have been able to build increasingly taller buildings and wider spans. Application of theoretical mechanics to the solution of many structural problems provided the engineers with widespread knowledge about the elastic and plastic behaviour of structures in the past six decades.

This workshop is drafted to keep abreast of the fast developing applications in steel structures with a basic understanding of fundamental aspects of strength analysis and behaviour of structural steel members and their inter-relationship with the principles and concept adopted and major changes in the new Indian standard code IS 800 – 2007 for current design practices for practical requirements of safety, feasibility, economy and efficiency in an optimum way. It will also emphasis the role of steel structures for Earthquake resistant structure.

Another area of focused the workshop is principle and design of Light-gauge sections new development with cold formed steel sections using buckling theory of thin plates for compression and flexural members. Lectures have been programmed with emphasis on the latest academic trends as well as industrial applications with rich knowledge in the field as well as theoretical base resource persons. The main focus in this work shop is to face the massive challenge and familiar in the design of steel structures and the steel pre-fabricated structures to Indian engineers ,research scholars, faculty members and students and will throw more light on many prevailing issues.

Major Areas Covered in the Workshop

  • Introduction to different steel structural elements.
  • Codal provisions.
  • Advancement in Rigid and semi rigid connections.
  • Analysis and application of Light gauge steel structures.
  • Conceptual analysis and design of Self supporting chimneys.
  • Analysis and design of different types of Towers.
  • Analysis and comparing steel structures with plastic and elastic theory.
