On 4th January, 2012, the inauguration ceremony of the launch of the student chapter of IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology), India was held at the college premises. The Institution of Engineering and Technology, has a 143 year old history with a mission to connect together a network of creativity, innovation and expertise in the fields of learning and teaching and use this collective power to change the face of education. The function started with the welcome address delivered by the Coordinator of IET of the college Ms. Anusha. There were 103 students and 21 staff who enrolled their name for the membership of IET participated in this function.
The Chief-Guest for the function was Mr. J. Santhanakrishnan, Retired Dy. General Manager, BSNL. In his Inaugural Address he said that the need and necessity of time is to bridge the gap between industry and institute. 'Vickram College of Engineering has become the first college in the south to register its name to become the Academic Partner of IET, India'.
Dr. S. Kathirrvelu, Principal, Vickram College of Engineering said in his Presidential Address that the college feels proud to join hands with IET where great minds meet. He further said that IET is one such organizations where the hunger for knowledge can be satisfied.
Ms. Shalini, Business Development Manager-South, IET (India) presented the Chapter Certificate to the Principal. Ms. Shalini gave a presentation on the aims and objectives of IET and said that the members of IET will be benefited to enhance and generate their knowledge to a different level. The meritorious students will also be given scholarship and awards. She discussed about the tentative planned activity for the year 2012. The Student Chapter office bearers were announced and oath was taken by them as per the convention. Dr. P. Venkatakrishnan, Head, Department of ECE proposed a vote of thanks.
