There was a Common Placement Drive for Executiveship held on 18^th Feb 2013 in our Campus. Final Year Students of Mechanical Engineering were eligible to participate in the Selection Process for Merchant Navy. Nearly 43 engineering colleges were contacted. 151 students participated – 122 students from 13 engineering colleges, and 29 students from our college.

First of all, there was a Pre-Placement Talk, given by Captain R. Ramesh, Operation Manager of the company. He was assissted by two HR officials – namely, Sri G. Durai Murugan and Sri S. Sandesh. A short film about the training given at Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies was given. Opportunities for growth in this multinational company were explained – 3000 USD as monthly pay for a Junior Engineer, and 12000 USD as monthly pay to a Chief Engineer, after 8 to 9 years of service in the organization. Besides, there is exposure to the global culture and values, as marine engineers travel round the world. Eight months of work is followed by 4 months of holidays, with full pay being given during holidays as well.

Then, Technical Test was conducted in 6 halls for an hour. Following this, a Psychometric Test was also held for another one hour. The answer scripts were collected and sent to Mumbai office for evaluation. After evaluation of test papers, 16 students got short-listed. These shortlisted candidates were invited to face the interview on 17^th April 2013, conducted by Sri Abhiram W. Wakamkar. The following students were declared to be selected in the Final Interview:
